Sorry mate, the final five has always been a fixed structure (and the best IMO) since the VFL and SANFL introcuded it in ealr-mid 70's, right down to country junior footy.
Interestingly, it was mentioned on the 5AA SANFL show the other week, the WAFL are voting in a couple of weeks to introduce it there.
