Everyone wants Port but Norwood is their clear arch rival

My Rivalry round would be
- Norwood v Port (Fri Night)
- Central v Eagles (Sat Aft)
- Glenelg v North (Sat Night)
- Sturt v West (Sunday somewhere along the River Murray where their zones meet)

South have the bye, their best rival is Glenelg so maybe switch with North.

Pity we don't consider them one though. Would probably rank below all bar WWT as clubs that we consider a rival.

Certainly well below Sturt, Port, Norwood, North and in a geographical and historical sense West.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Glenelg could play Sturt as an internal trial ...

You speak for yourself. Personally I find the Peter Carey - Peter Darley Cup to carry more prestige than the TS Hill trophy.

Graham Cornes disagrees with you. He said last night "Like most clubs Glenelg's biggest rival is Port but given that Norwood and Port will always play Glenelg must play North Adelaide. They are clearly Glenelg's biggest rival."

It amuses me when Glenelg supporters "dismiss" North and the supposed rivarly along with many Bay fans who have a strong hate of North? Talk about being ungrateful - if it wasn't for North, Glenelg would have 1 lone flag in their history - hardly the credentials of a supposed Big 4 Club? Is it small man's or small club syndrome?

Very hard for rivalries to have the equal level of passion from BOTH sides as one has usually had an advantage over the other on the field.

At least Central v Eagles has evened up a little now, it was very lop sided to Central early on.

Central have stopped the Eagles being best team of the year on 4 occassions

Eagles have responded twice and are all that have stood between Central and an amazing run of 9 straight premierships.

I suspect though if you asked Central fans who they would prefer to play in a GF from a "revenge" factor they would still say Port rather than Eagles.

While Port v Norwood will always be the biggest rivalry, I feel they are a cyclical thing...

Were the bays & North traditional rivals before the grand finals in the 80s?

I'm sure Port & Sturt would have played in the 'rivalry rounds' of the 50s & 60s etc

That would have been quite amazing had it eventuated. I often find myself thinking about that 'what if' but always respect the Eagles for their competitiveness over the journey.

Centrals have been 'everyone's rival' for ten years, before that they battled with Woodville for the wooden spoon, so I suppose a Central/Eagle rivalry game makes sense ;) Norwood and Port may be basking in glory of previous generations, but at least they existed before 1964 and the rivalry continues to 2012, despite their retrospective ladder positions. Everyone knows that if the weather holds on, tonight will pull the biggest minor round crowd of the season.

Ask Norwood who their rival is. Answer : Port
Ask Port who their rival is. Answer : Norwood (NOT GLENELG! Bays hate port because of the Granger/Cornes incident and because they were successful in the peak of the SANFL when they lost a number of GFs to them)

Yeah, maybe we should just give up and merge with a massive club like torrens or woodville. Would that make us a big club?

The Eagles stopped Centrals winning 9 in a row, but they also handed Centrals a few!
