If it ever happens, ever, I would think the sides would be in the SANFL reserves. I cant see the relevant parties coming to terms on any such proposal though.

Seriously, I can't wait.How so?

Surely a no vote would have led to one of the bodies being wound up, now, which one do you think it would have been first to go in that instance?

Unlike now of course.

Ask Fatalberton why he voted against the merger, it's people like him I feel sorry for. He's the one whose club has been neutered to pay for more interminable leadership courses or New Zealand trips for the Power players, board and support staff.

I'm just aggrieved that the narrow self interest of a few will eventually rob the SANFL of its most enduring rivalry.

So where do I sit as a paid up member / season ticket holder / yearly generous donater to both the Magpies and Power?

Am I not a "true" Port supporter?

To be honest, the few Magpie fans that hate and I mean hate the Power puzzle me, truly puzzle me.

It doesn't puzzle me at all. They see the power as a joke and the power kicked the maggies off their home ground Alberton. It has been a long process for both clubs and they are hoping this One Port image will help mend the bridges but in some supporters eyes it will not.

If Port Power demand to have a reserves team it will probably be at the cost of the Port Magpies and their standing in the SANFL. Which would create more division amongst their supporters.

And post Adelaide Oval if the Power keeps haemorrhaging money it's going to be a pretty easy red line to draw through the Magpies on the budget papers.

The Power didn't kick anyone from anywhere. The SANFL did. Wasn't the Magpies or Powers decision to more anyone. The SANFL and other SANFL clubs were paranoid about the Maggies using the Power facilities and people, giving them an unfair advantage, which obviously, was crap

Port Adelaide aren't asking for anything, they have said all along they aren't looking to have a "reserves" team in the SANFL.

Why do people talk of the Magpie supporters and Power supporters people two seperate groups of people? Sure, there are people who go for the Pies and not the Power, and the other way around, but the bulk majority are supporters of both.

Port Magpies supporters obviously are, they voted overwhelmingly in favour of killing the Magpies off last year.

And you reckon I write cr@p? This post takes the cake.

Not sure which way I go on the Reserves debate. Perhaps the Crows will have the most impact. Their older supporters will barrack against them, which won't be good.

But I can't see the next generation supporting another SANFL side when they already barrack for the Crows in the AFL.

And that will effect the local comp in the future.

I can see when an SANFL club is about to go bust (perhaps Sturt) the solution will be having all Crows players go to them in return for their survival. Then the Power will all go to the Magpies.

Hopefully all clubs go from strength to strength and we don't need this.

Best case scenario would be for the Power and Crows to field sides in the SANFL reserves comp. Worse case would be any other move.

Best case is for the SANFL to sell off the licenses and then piss the Crows and Power reserves off to the VFL

Great post. I agree 100%

For a start I wish the media - in particular Rucci and McDermott - should pipe down with their 'opinions'. Rucci in particular would love nothing more to kill the SANFL off and seems to have made it is agenda. Unfortunately they are voices on the airwaves and many naive 'johnny come lately' AFL supports who never even knew what a football was until 10 years ago are easily conned through listening.

I will never support any Crows/Power side in the SANFL or even an SANFL side who gives in and becomes a 'host' for the AFL sides' players. It will spell the death of our competition. The only possible way I'd consider it would be is if the AFL sides somehow played the SANFL sides during a bye but not sure how that would work. As far as I am concerned, they can field a side in the Reserves competition or the Amateurs.

My major concern is where the players would come from. Late in the season when Port or the Crows only have 30 fit men on their squad are they going to come raid the SANFL clubs or pinch them from country footy?

All good concerns. It's not as black and white as Rucci and McDermot make it out to be but their dribble sounds ideal in their owns minds when they say it fast.

That's right Jim. As a minimum, the top 30 of our SANFL clubs have to be off limits, so how will fringe SANFL-reserves players be able to keep up with a decent level of skill and game plan to give the Crows and Power players sufficient practice at their own game plans?

That was the point at which the Magpies were effectively neutered. No home, no money, divided loyalties, all thanks to an unfounded paranoia that ultimately handed a decade of dominance the the boys from the North.
