Its players from his era who should be entering their prime, but there's hardly any about now

Wow, had not seen or heard that point of view before. Surely what he brought to the club was far better than what has been recruited since. I thought he was instrumental in your 2004 - 2007 era of two grand final appearances.

He was, but 2006-7 rookies who were drafted should now be 100+ game players entering the best football of their lives.

SANFL thread I know, but this is where the Power stuffed up trying to hold on too long. If 2006-08 were there pain years, they would have got good draft picks then, and combined with players such as Brogan and Cornes would have provided leadership as well as still having a little bit of good footy in them. West Coast have it worked out, if you're not at the top, you need to be at the bottom, and by making the fall quickly, Cox, Kerr, Embley, Glass all have good footy in them when the youngsters come through. Being "honourable" like the Crows and Power have been over the last decade gets you nowhere.

I dont care if you are draft pick no. 1 or 2000 100% effort levels should be identical.

Could it be with all the rotations, the speed of the game, tactics etc that these days in football you get more contests where one players is fresher compared to the opponent who is out on his legs and about to be rotated. Not to often you see one player follow another player around all day everywhere he goes including the bench.

This is a very fair and pertinent point .. A club's cattle might lack the class of their opposition and be more prone to mistakes, but intensity and honesty of effort should be expected from the best player in the competition, the worst player in the competition and everyone within that range.
