From a player management point of view it is pure gold. No coincidence that Torrens have been able to have good August/Septembers the last two years on the back of a two week byes in July
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

holden78 wrote:The premiership has given the Eagles footy dept. ( like all fans ) a slightly deluded view of what maybe possible beyond 2011. Treeby, Rimmington, Tiller and Allmond gave our 21, players that could pressure, intimidate and move to present options that would lead to good things happening down the field. In short they were hardnuts that have'nt been replaced and when you have a lack of busy tenacious ( quick ) midfielders already, well it does'nt take much to fall away as we've seen in all games including the trials! Godden must have had a little thought that this could be an issue as he snapped up Chris Kane to try an replace Treeby/Rimmo, but with only Eddy who is surely going to be at the very least solid, the recruiting is looking way off what can only be described as a squad that just has zero penetration against well organised opposition. Godden will be suprised even after 3 games just how hard it is to be the hunted every week and ironically it's Centrals who we match up with best, still! This can only turn around if we get 21 totally committed players and zero passengers ( no names yet  ). The gameplan can't change now so it's play some kids, take risks to score, keep Grieger in ruck with Parry, why not play McKenzie on the ball as really he's our ace in the hole FFS and I'd play Raymond along with him so as to drag the others in the midfield along too! This week Shirley gets Allen all game no rest no excuses! Goldy or Sumner inside 50 near Grocke and everyone else F--- off out and from there it's real simple.

Holden78, that is the first of your 1014 posts that I see sense in, which concerns me, because it means one of us has changed..

I am as passionate an Eagles supporter as there is going round, and I am also concerned along with every other supporter out there, something isnt quite right this year, its not clicking just yet, we havent had key personnel on the park yet.. BUT, having said that, its not all over bar the shouting for 2012 just yet.

Recruiting wise, bringing Eddy Shirls Sumner Harding Kane into the squad looked like a good way to go pre season, with the toughness we lost being covered with Shirls Kane and Eddy, and also adding some leg speed with Sumner, I thought we didnt do enough to cover our severe lack of ruck depth..

I believe (and this is only MY opinion) the areas that are killing us are our lack of ruck stocks behind Parry, and our mid range players that were so good for us last year, havent taken the next step or are drastically under performing.. These areas need to be improved ASAP, not so much the game plan, because it was only 4 games ago that the game plan bought us the ultimate glory.. The game has not changed that much in the last 7 months of summer..

We need to re visit this in July, if we havent showed marked improvement by then, then by all means start burning your effigy's of Gods and slay every one on our playing list, but until then, lets just put faith in the playing group who are largely premiership players or AFL experienced, and a coach who is the reigning SANFL premiership coach and coach of our State side..

Can anyone on here tell me how youn Von Bertouch is going in the reserves? Super talent but doesn't appear to be putting it together at this stage, will he play league at all this year or not?

How the club that had so many ruckmen suddenly have nothing is beyond a joke . And not to mention that Hoban is gone with the player retirements late like Tiller and Almond there should have been money to find a ruckman somewhere !!
Getting to the ground to find Parry out with was it a shoulder or an infection or a spider bite .But Bock was an out as well .So in comes Heinjus with more strapping than the rest of the team and he limps off at 3/4 time gone .
Luke Powell did a knee any news on him ?

No wonder we Eagles Fans are left feeling like who knows what .
Mind you the last time the Eagles started like this they won the flag in 2006!!

Parry was out with Golden Staff (not Golden Shower) in his elbow. Not sure how he contracted it though - it's most commonly picked up in hospitals and actually kills a lot of people each year.

One was supposed to be in his shoulder the other in his arm.
End of Day he was out

... And the eagles won the flag last year whilst the Bays were crap and lost 20 players from their list over summer.

Only 13 of last years premiership side played against the bays. The most notable absentees were Parry the GF BOG and Grocke who is our main target up forward and then our skipper Powell went off with a knee injury in the 1st quarter. Furthermore we had 2 players on debut and another 2 with less than a handful of league game experience.
