No offense, but haven't you heard of the mini draft before for all new players to the SA afl clubs that need an SANFL home?

No offence taken...obviously don't know as much as you.

Oooooooo spelling nazi! my sincerest...

But you haven't answered my question, had you not heard of the mini draft? I just assumed that at least all SANFL fans would have heard of it even if they don't know how it works? Not meaning to poke fun and it's a serious question...any who, it's a good way for clubs to get a recruit without having to try too hard ;)

If true, it would mean that any team who finishes in the top 5 (not just the premiers, and occasionally grand finalists, as in the past) is a chance of not getting a pick.

Can anyone confirm?
There is no way the Crows would have let the Power get away with that.
IIRC someone at Port raised the idea early and the Crows replied they would want a reserves team then too.
There it died...

Yeah, usually in February when the mini-draft happens - last year the Dogs didn't even get a pick. ;)

Its usually held before Christmas.

Given the TV news tonight made a big deal about a Tingle's player's new hairdo (And in other news, Taylor Walker sneezed) it must be a very slow news day here in Adelaide. But there was also a revival of the Reserves debate by Brenton Sanderson on the back of his Geelong experience.

Sanderson's Reserves plan consists of playing the Bye team for no points and will totally devalue the SANFL competition.

And how will it fit in with the Top 4 clubs that didn't want to play the Foxtel Cup because of the extra workload?

Thereby negating any benefit of the bye to the SANFL club (rest players, interstate recruits go home for the weekend, etc).

If Sanderson wants a reserves team so badly, he can field it in the VFL or any other league of his choosing. Leave the SANFL alone.

Why don't Adelaide's 'Reserves' just play the Power's 'Reserves' every week and leave the rest of us alone?

Because with a list of 45 + rookies and the AFL side taking 22 players each week, factoring in injuries, at least 4-6, there isnt enough players available.

Why isn't that stopping them from proposing to enter a Reserves team in the SANFL?

Maybe the 38 coaches they have at each club could pull on the boots and fill the gaps?

Might do some of them good, after a season they could get into size 46 shorts.

It's insane isn't it?

If Collingwood have a nasal hair conditioning and presentation coach then they all have to have one.

Sanderson should be ignored in this regard - he is purely AFL orientated.

I don't have an issue with having assitant coaches and speciallist coaches as the game has evolved.

I just struggle with all the other add ons that they believe the need to gain a 1% advantage over their opponents , which will apparently leads on to a premiership.

1. Training at high altitude
2. Shrinks
3. Australian Cycling Coaches
4. Head stats coach, assistant stats coach , deputy assistant stats coach
5. Dieticians
6. Leadership groups/mentors/grandmas and grandpas.
7. Counselling Services
8. List Managers

Its out of control.

I agree, although apropos 2., Norwood did use Keith Le Page to train their players to avoid being suckered into the brawls against the Bays in a grand final one year.
He used hypnotic technique.

The AFL is happy to fund multi-million dollar football department spends on crap like the above and then gives the Foxtel Cup winner $40,000.

Beyond a joke.
