I'm dead against it, I don't want an excuse to have to visit The Sleeping Giant in a place where people sweat a lot.

You'd think they'd just be happy to take part in the Foxtel Cup wouldn't you?

Considering the flights to Darwin would be during the peak holiday season and flights can cost $1,000 return x 30 players and staff x 20 rounds plus finals, money is the obvious question.

To do it just so there is 10 teams would be the worst reason to do it.

Pros:
Existing clubs will attract greater sponsorship because they will now have additional exposure in the NT
Players will experience flying before a game making them more attracive to AFL clubs
The Thunder has had 3 years and in now much more competitive than last time this was looked at.
It will add an extra interest in the SANFL which despite the positive spin some are putting on crowds have effectively been stable for 10 years

Cons:
There will be extra expense - who pays?
A lot of SANFL supporters are very conservative and opposed to any change - they may be alienated
The dogs will struggle to win in Darwin
We used to be good :-(

I think it would be great for the league...

... we definitely need a change to perk it up a bit and make it more competitive as it's become a one-team dominated league and thats not good for the brand.

$1000 return? Is that first class on Emirates?
I'm sure the league could get a better deal than that.

Will not happen sadly enough, the SANFL no longer have the capacity to look forward to expanding the competition as they once did. Any suggestions that could lead to additional interest or increased attendances are unlikely to be welcomed any time soon by the current administration.

Well Presently the AFL chip in some $$$ to fly them to Brisbane don't they??? I can't see the AFL (If they do?) continuing their part of the deal if the NT want to head South......

... and I would be wary of accepting the team if their participation was dependent upon AFL money. Money = control, or at least influence.

Would have no negative effect in sponsorship on the 9 Adelaide clubs. In fact, could be a plus.

Indeed. It is easier to give your sponsor exposure when fielding a team each week, rather than sitting out a bye. 5 games a week would give greater overall exposure to the league than 4.

i think the sanfl would be way to easy. I think thunder would smash centrals every day of the week, and wouldn't be able to lose a game up here. Its just common sense to put them in there, we beat morningside by 100 points, in queensland, in a very strong comp (probably just a bit below SANFL). So look, in sargemland we will win the SANFL FLAG!!!!

lol. Morningside! Im sure they're comparable to Centrals or Norwood. :?

What aircraft are they using?

If this was to go ahead it's imperative some sort of deal with Qantas / Virgin happen. As far as seats go they can only sell how many seats that are available. If they blocked off seats for footy teams like they do in the AFL ( most Perth flights are full too), then it's easy.

A 737-800 can be upgraded to a 767 etc etc....
