McKernan worked hard and really showed what a talent he'll be. With the AFL clubs moving away from 2 genuine ruckmen and looking for a second ruckman who can play key forward or defense he seems to be the ideal modern second ruckman. Coupled with the fact he tries hard when he's with South and pays enough respect to anyone he comes up agaisnt (but not too much) I like the way he goes about it. Maric and Mieklejohn were very disappointing. And when Thurgood is your best key position after your rucks you can't afford that.

All in all a good 2 points for South in what shapes a fascinating bottom 5 battle at the moment. But let's not forget it was only Port they beat. Beat Central next week and no doubt we'll look at South in a different light.

Im already looking at South in a different light, in all my preseason/mid season selection i didnt have South anywhere near the top 5.

most people didn't and did the usual South bagging....

I was certainly expecting South and Port to be battling around the same area all year. North and Sturt showed fairly early I thought they were in that mix as well. I don't think anyone could picture South doing anything but improving though.

But this vibe I'm getting that opposition fans only expect South to be crap and always waiting for them to fail has been well earned by South. Right now you're getting credit for being not as crap as we expected you do be. Anyone worried by the prospect of South making the 5? Anyone give South any hope of making a finals impact? Being "not quite as embarassing as the last few years" is a far cry from being a good side.

Was a good win by the Panthers today, I was impressed with the way they fought out the game.

Nice to meet DOC post game and although we didn't meet, good to see mickey there with his red SAFooty.net hat stood out :D

A better side than Glenelg, Port, North, Sturt at the moment. ;)

I'm sorry, I got the impression you were about to refer to a good side then I found myself wanting ;)

But that's exactly how I see it right now. A top 4 (West trying to make it a top 3) then a tight battle for 5th down to the spoon. South right now look like doing well out of that battle. In a month, thought will be fascinating.

Hows this for a statement.

if they win their remaining H&A games then YES, if they lose them all NO.

Yep, PP we have a bloody tough draw ahead of us.

Just watched the last 1/4, South simply wanted it more, Port wern't switched on at all. Ron certainly has something to work with there.

Is Wundke the last gum chewing footballer?

FIRST HALF

Only seen the first half
PA certainly got a raw deal with the Umpiring decisions
I reckon Ive seen a new age free kick type this season[SA benefited today]
Apparently its a free if you dive in head first and collide with a stationary oppositions players legs
Nathan Eagleton pioneered this free kick and was rewarded by being reported ![also benefited SA that game]
By half time the umpiring had given SA about 2-3 goals advantage
Simply not good enough in a hard fought game

PA played better in the 1st qtr
SA played better in the 2nd qtr, thier defence played very well
PA should have been 3-4 goals up at half time as had little luck, and a raw deal with the umps

STANDARD
Good , considering the conditions
PA made a lot more boo boos in the first half than SA

I think you'll find the AFL will be doing something about this next season, and hopefully the SANFL will follow. We've seen some rather serious injuries resulting from this tactic, that lad from WA, and Stratton from Hawthorn to name a couple.

Good to see South back last weeks good win over the Eagles with another four quarter effort. It's also the first time that I've seen South's attack on the ball away from home equal what it is at home. I think they'll get a lot of self belief from this win and hopefully put together some more good performances on the road. The rest of their home games are against sides above them on the ladder, and all of their away games (bar one) against the sides below them.

I think Ronny would be happy with the efforts of Brown and Carey over the last two weeks. They've added a bit of zip to the side, Rolfe will improve as he regains his match fitness and Cross continues his good form.

Looking forward to a good game next Sunday.

South very aggressive in attack today with plenty of speed to go down the middle, Fuller backs the players to play attacking footy down the middle, long may it continue!

As predicted, South played in front all day & won the game. Simple footy in wet weather.
