But certainly would be a good idea SABRE, if we could come up with some sort of reciprocal rights on a membership for, say, three games a year, or one game at each other venue.

Great Work Eagles, would love to see it include a 'drink voucher' or maybe buy '1 get 1 free meal voucher' in the clubrooms as well.

Hope this catches on.
:-?
Now, if I can wangle this just right, it could mean free football, free food AND free p!ss for a whole season.
Catch ya later guys. I've got a lot of planning to do.

Interesting considering you can get a free ticket from any Good Guys Store this week to any of the SANFL games.

The south australian amatuer league has 7 division with a grade and reserves and roughly 8 teams in each division = roughly 2350 players

country leagues- at very least 15 leagues (according to whats on the regional forums) on average 6 teams in each league with both a and b grade= roughly 3700 players

Nearly all of these leagues are played on Saturday Afternoons, if you were to have a Friday night match you would expose the telecast to roughly 6000 more people who have an obvious interest in Australian Rules Football.

That does not include Coaches, Officals, Volunteers, Family members who all choose to go watch there local football. It also does not include supporters who are at other SANFL games that are being played on the same day.

Surely having the oppurtunity to broadcast a game to an extra 8000 people would have to be considered a positive, Wouldnt it?

Remember only rough figures and i have would have underestimated how many country leagues there are, plus i havent taken into account C Grade sides.

Of the numbers quoted, 90% would be watching the Friday night AFL telecast.

Ahhhhhhh my friend the SANFL telecast would be starting around an hour before the AFL telecast even starts. Im sure if the game is good enough people will continue to watch, even if they just flick for the scores and watch in between the AFL games adverts and quarter time breaks that would have to be a good thing yeah.

Also if you had West vs Central telecast i think there would be a hell of a lot of people from the Riverland/Barossa area who would be just as, if not more interested in seeing how players from their clubs/league are going as they never get that oppurtunity

Next year, the games will be played/telecast at very close to the same time.

It would also depend on who is playing in the AFL game and how big of a game it was.

Not sure if it's been mentioned ,apologies if so , however why not show the Friday night game Saturday which should also increase crowds slightly for Saturday games ? It was done once , Sturt V Norwood Friday night game , may have even been thye first ever night footy game at AO .Norwood or AO games only , I think Norwood now have the ability to have lighting for TV if required.

I think we are losing sight of the fact that the ABC essentially has national programming and that they use the Saturday afternoon to cater for the different regions particular tastes. (SANFL,WAFL, VFL, Queensland Cup etc..) They would be reluctant to break away from that structure IMO.
Remember also that the minute the ABC lose interest in the SANFL is potentially when we have no TV coverage at all - unless Foxtel decided to take up the reins.

Why would the ABC lose interest from broadcasting a friday game, wouldnt there be a chance they would gain interest as they would be opening up the viewing audience by thousands.

TSG, serious question apart from lighting issues what reasons do you have against changing the broadcast?

Why is Saturday Afternoon such an important thing when it means thousands miss the telecast?

You better have a closer look at the new tv deal. No Better homes and gardens before the footy next year.

Night games have bigger crowd attending games. Live telecast of games would hurt those numbers.

Friday night afl footy is a ratings winner. Even though most on this site would choose the SANFL over the AFL, more wouldn't. I'd rather watch Geelong v Collingwood than West v WWT.

The AFL game on Saturday afternoon is normally a non blockbuster game like North Melbourne v Melbourne. I would choose West v WWT over that game.

As has already been posted, sat afternoon on ABC is devoted to local sport. No way in hell will they show live football on a Friday night, especially against the AFL.

Last but not least, Saturday afternoon suits me just fine.

Do you not see any benefit to giving up to 10 thousand extra people the oppurtunity to view an SANFL game!
