Yes camp are now in front 26 to 8 , the poll is about as believable as the article, and this despite the fact that on clicking "vote now" the result returned was 21 to 12......

I'll expect the dodgy results plastered all over the 'tiser as complete justification for reserves teams.

It would be interesting to see how this could work for the supposed one port adelaide.

Means they would have 4 senior teams and 2 junior teams..Financial disaster i'm tipping.

and on game day when they faced each other it would be like Australia v australia A.

Lose lose i would think not win win.

So the Power would have a stand alone reserves side, the Crows the same, adding two teams to the comp? WTF are you guys on?

The reason people are not turning up to Crows games is because a, a number of people only bother to support football sides when they are winning and that is hardly a new phenomenon, and b, I suspect that a number of people are deliberately not attending whilst no action is taken by the administration of the club towards the Senior Coaching position, when Craig does get stood down from the position and a new Senior Coach is brought in its likely that a number of people will return to give them another go, there is little point going along watching the club being outcoached each fortnight and no accountability being taken over it (although I concede that Adelaide's problems cut deeper than just the Senior Coach).

IMO reserves teams will not work at all within the SANFL and will reverse the growth of the SANFL competition if the SANFL administration are stupid enough to go down that pathway. Whilst Rucci may point out that there may be some problems with not having a Reserves team I would suggest that in reverse there may also be several advantages to having the current system that he neglects to mention Such as atmosphere and playing for the clubs colours, several AFL listed players are only to happy to wear there SANFL clubs colours in Grand Final matches and I suspect that they would not risk the injury if they were not on the receiving end of the benefit of being there in the first place. Its worth mentioning that when its been tried before to allocate players to one WAFL side that its ended up a total failure, but I guess Rucci isn't quite so keen to mention that in his articles either.

Ultimatley its also probably worth mentioning that the two AFL sides exist for no other reason than to provide revenue streams into the SANFL. The AFL is all about Commerical Decisions and that is what the SANFL made in getting both of our AFL licences. For all of Ruccis articles I seem to see very little from the clubs themselves criticising the current deal, I suspect because they are well aware that to pay out their licences indexed to today's money and to then negotiate the hire of SANFL property and to pay for there reserves side themselves and all the other costs would likely bankrupt them several times over.

The point that Rucci makes about the spending at Collingwood is probably a valid one though, that is clearly the benchmark for the AFL and if clubs want to be successful they will have to find similar amounts of coin to do it, that is hardly the problem of the SANFL however.

Vote no folks - voting in different browsers seems to work :)

I voted no. If crows and port were to have reserves they should be played in an AFL reserves comp not in SANFL.

Said it once, I'll say it again.

The day the Crows (and Port) have reserves teams in the SANFL is the day I end my support of the Adelaide Football Club

so the rest of the power players that arent playing afl on any given weekend would play for the magpies.that would be,lets say20 odd.
what happens to the current magpie reserves players?
would the rookie listed players play for their original club or port magpies?

Once again the power screw the magpies further alienating the magpie true blue supporters.

It shouldnt be allowed surely!!!

There are so many reasons why this is a bad idea. One is that the Crows and Port sides would probably not be that competitive. They would also struggle to field a side most weeks and would probably pinch the best couple of Under 21 players from each SANFL club as top up players which would further compromise this great competition. What if we let them enter a tenth team in to eliminate the bye, but only if they share it! Greg Anderson can coach, Brett Chalmers can be No 1 ticket holder and the Cornes family as patrons!

There is nothing wrong with the current SANFL comp - leave it as it is.

Wondering whether Trigg would lobby for a Crows reserves side in the SANFL against the wishes of his old club Centrals?

Rucci's agenda is sickening. His team is in the AFL now and he doesn't give a stuff about the competition he grew up cherishing.

I know for a fact there will be no Crows or Port reserves teams in the SANFL as long as Leigh Whicker has any input whatsoever. He's dead against it. Unfortunately, Whicker's influence will not go on forever. It may in fact only last a couple more years and once he's gone, the goalposts may well move. The two AFL clubs will then go hammer and nails at the new SANFL administration and quite possibly get their way. And that's when one of you scribes can start penning the book "Who killed football in South Australia?".

If the Power and Crows want reserves teams so badly let them play in the VFL.

Think of the great "development" players will get learning to travel every 2nd week.

Power can play their home games at Alberton in front of a few hundred and Crows can have their home games on Max Basheer Reserve.

Bottom line ... do not threaten the integrity of the SANFL competition, a league in its own right where every teams #1 aim is to win the premiership.

Well said Phil, esp as we believe it is the biggest state based sporting competition in the world.

Things seem to go full circle these days, I can see the AFL reserves coming back soon leaving the SANFL and VFL alone. A-League play a reserves comp and travel arount the country so why cant AFL do the same?

I don't think the AFL would emulate anything the A League do except for getting huge unconditional government charity.

PS I think a Crows reserves side in the SANFL is a great idea, more interest in comp, more people at games, Crows supporters to abuse, no bye, no chance to the Crows and Port making finals as could only be topped up with kids, more kids getting exposed to higher level earlier, one less excuse to the Power, AFL clubs can play their players where they want, less disruptions to 8 SANFL sides, more media coverage, more traffic on SAFooty, no wooden spoon to North or South, all good! :D

The SANFL commission is slowly topping up with SANFL club people. Hopefully this doesn't hit the agenda at that level until after the majority actually have some consideration for something below AFL level.
