The SANFL night competition draws nearer and nearer......

What amazes me is according to Chris McDermott, the Bays are "budgetting" for average crowds of 10,000. Say what?

The club is confident we could crack 10 000 for the first game - The Emperor mentioned that last night at the HOF dinner. I think the club would be happy with an average of half that.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Definitely 10k should be on the cards for the first night game. Could be even more if you get the right opponent - hypothetically, on the back of 14k for the Sturt game there, would the Bays like to play the Double Blues in their first night game? Would you want a Friday night game or a Saturday night game, first up?

Given Central, West and Norwood already have lights, I reckon you'd have to play one of the other 5 sides in Sturt, North, South, Eagles or Port.

Well one would hope that word would spread to the local ALP meetings within the seat of Morphett where Cr Bouchee and Cr Looker are known attendees and that the wishes of those higher in their political organisation will be taken heed of.

Its good news both for the Bays and the SANFL in general, one would think that night footy at the Bay will be incredibly popular with the punters and like what happened at Richmond will likely see a huge correction upwards in crowd numbers and interest in the SANFL.

The first game should get 12 - 15k I feel and going on recent programming it will be against Sturt you'd think.

I grew up 2 blocks from the Bay Oval and the parents still live there. Can't believe the attitude of some of the "nay"- bours towards night footy. Make it a Dry oval? Yeah, that'll attract a crowd!

But at least their council got it through.

Some of the councillors in the area are first class nut jobs, as are some of the residents.

The spillage from the lights is actually lower then the current training lights.

Norwood have had plenty of issues with residents over the years, I guess in this day and age a lot of local people dont have any allegiance to the local clubs anymore.

Fantastic news that it's all go down the Bay though, can't wait to have a night out down that way with footy included!! :D

And fair enough, however most of the suburban grounds, have been in operation since the early 1900's and thus would've been there long before any current resident.

Hell how would have the locals faired back in the 60/70/80's when you'd get 10 - 15 k people rock up every second weekend....

If you move next to a Football Club or in the vicinity, then you put up with the general football club noise/behaviour issues etc otherwise S.T.F.U and move.....

I reckon this applies to most Council areas - the elected members are a bit hit and miss.

Hopefully the night games are early in the season and late in the season.. I would much rather have a day game in the depths of winter.

Bays have a night game at Noarlunga in June. Won't be a huge crowd for that one.
