Seriously, i believe it's a retrogade step by the sanfl - a tenner is one note and easy to swallow for most people; I guess it's one way of driving people towards memberships.

Probably preaching to the converted here ... BUT

This price rise makes for an even more compelling case to buy a club Home Match / Season Ticket.

By doing so

- For a home match ticket you save an EXTRA $20 on top of the current discount
than if you bought gate tickets at all 10 home games

- For a season ticket you save an EXTRA $40 on top of the current discount
than if you bought gate tickets at all 20 minor round games AND

- ALL revenue from the home match and almost all revenue from the season ticket goes to YOUR CLUB
against only 11.1% of your gate ticket purchases

If you are a SANFL regular its a no brainer for me .....

Thank goodness I have no brain then. :P I've already bought myself a Home Match ticket for 2011; but I'll be getting a Season Ticket from 2012 onwards. Couldn't quite afford the upgrade from Home to Season this year.

$12 doesn't seem as bad when you consider the domestic T20 (that no doubt a few of us will head to tonight) costs $17.

Fair comparison?
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

the SANFL are going to use the revenue raised by the increase to make the NAtional COmp a more financially viable option for clubs and will help ease some of the financial burden that clubs will face if they choose to compete

It's a worthwhile purchase even if you only go to 75% of the games, as you said: the money goes to the club.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

This smacks of a new phenomenon that has emerged in the SANFL, known as "Chandlerism". It's all about creaming more money out of the state league to prop up a certain AFL team.

Consider:

Season tickets are $110 in 2011, and were $100 in 2010 and $70 in 2009. The extra amount includes "free" tickets to AFL games. Too bad if you dont want them.

Gate prices $12 in 2011, were $10 in 2010 and $9 before that.

Curtain raiser games have been re-introduced to prop up Power attendances. Ironically, 5 clubs said no to writing a blank cheque to be a part of the Champions League. Chandler was disappointed, yet he cant say how SANFL ticket holders will access curtain raiser games and at what prices, so it seems he is himself asking SANFL fans to commit to a blank cheque?

The draw has been manipulated. Central get 2 night games and South walk in and get 6 night games with new lights. West get 5 night games with new lights. Norwood get 4 night games, after being the first club in Australia to play night footy some 50 years ago.

Chandlerism is complimented by a similar phenomenon known as "Demetriouism", which includes features like -

The salary cap has been reduced.

Transfer fees for players from interstate have been increased.

u/19 and u/17s replaced by u/18s and u/16s

How long is a piece of Chandler-Demetiou string? Hell, even the Duckworth-Lewis system is more palatable than the Chandler-Demetriou system.

Norwood also get 2 night games at the neutral Adelaide oval plus a day game there and one at Footy Park and also play West and South under lights. I understand that Centrals got the night games they were after. If they wanted more they certainly would have a case.

However, South get none at Adelaide Oval and if it is relevant that Norwood should have more as they have had lights longer, then should South have more games at Adelaide than Norwood as they have been in the league longer?

Squawk, I think the Duckworth-Lewis system is excellent ;)

As for the rest of your conspiracy theory, the clubs generally got what they requested in the draw, as far as practicable, including the Magpies asking for 2 curtain-raisers.

Far from propping up the AFL team, it props up our comp, as the SANFL make far more money from an increase in attendances at a Power game than they would ever do from an SANFL game. The better result then helps prop up the SANFL teams.

The entry conditions for Norwood fans to the curtain-raiiser are pretty reasonable in the circumstances.

As for the anti-Demetriou stuff, given what he could do (and I'm no fan of his by a long way), a tiny reduction in the salary cap and a transfer fee that applies for the SANFL as well as against it is hardly earth-shattering.

Perhaps that over-egging is a

"Squawkism" ;)

We want more night games but the sooks in The SANFL have insisted that We upgrade Our lights before more night games & it will cost about $40,000 to do it. So wait until after pension week & We will be able to pay cash!

You been involved in propaganda development for long, or just new to the game?

I did feel like saying FFS, it's $2 a game!! Thought better of it though. Still, if you feel so strongly about $2 per week or about $40 per year I can only imagine what you would able to write about fuel prices, the cost of my lamb chops for Australia day, Interest rates, school fees etc etc...
