Unfortunately I think state footy is dead. I don't think we'll see another one imo. Hope I'm wrong though and this is just a one off.

As long as this "Champions League" is happening, sadly I don't think there will be an inter-state League game either :(

Not happy about it either, was looking forward to a road trip to Melbourne for a massive footy weekend next year

Intra-state of inter-state? There's plenty of intra-state games! :?

Ok, our crowds are already below the average - I, you and everyone else knows it, but I don't see how you can help to increase them with once again having the least amount of night matches.

Central - 4
Eagles - 3
Glenelg - 5
North - 3
Norwood - 7
Port - 3
South - 6
Sturt - 7
West - 6

Thanks goes to Charles Sturt council for Woodville not being able to upgrade the lights, and the well run SAAFL and their thoughtful bids. I can see 5 matches where we will get the lowest crowd of the round, Round 1 will be the first of them.

Talking about Souths' first round record:

Overall:
P 102
W 34
L 65
D 3

Since 1991:
P 17
W 5
L 10
D 2

The last three matches have been unbeaten - South are playing for their longest unbeaten Round 1 sequence since 1897-1902 (5 matches). 1920-22; 1964-66; 1979-81 and 2008-10 have all been 3 match unbeaten sequences.

An intriguing stat since 1991 for Souths' opening matches is their oppnents for them:
Team P W L D
Central 0 - - -
Eagles 5 - 5 -
Glenelg 3 3 - -
North 3 - 2 1
Norwood 0 - - -
Port 2 - 2 -
Sturt 2 1 - 1
West 2 1 1 -

So it's all set up for everyone; waiting with anticipation for another victory for Ron Fuller against his previous club. You can't wait.

We did have that trouble with them regarding rent about 5 years ago. It was considerably more (like double) than what West Torrens were offering for Thebarton. Had we gone to Thebarton permanently (which is what shouldn't happen anyway) it would have alienated a number of what fans we do have. The balance is right if we had one or two night matches at Thebarton and 7-8 day matches at Woodville.

I know this is an old chestnut but how hard is it to give South [or the bottom side each year] the bye in round 23 the following year.

-If they improve enough to contest the finals then all of their supporters would be ecstatic and wouldnt worry about the bye, but why factor in a side like the Bays for the bye when there is a slight chance they could finish the minor round top and have 3 weeks between the last game and there first final

It just seems so simple and fair but obviously its a lot harder to organise than I thought

1 million % agreeance.

also think the premier should get a round 1 game at home to unveil premiership flag,

CDFC have 2 games at Noarlunga in the first 8 rounds what a joke that this happens every year to different teams

Its not that hard, i have run various different sporting competitions and fixtures are the easy part.

It isn't as easy as you think.

Each club puts in a 'wish list' before the draw is made and the SANFL has to accommodate as much of that as they can.

I think almost every club is happy enough with the draw.

No the clubs put a wish list in and the SANFL can choose what wishes they grant. First rule of running a competition is that the competiting teams dont run the fixture and play by the rules outlayed by management.

Obviously things such as anniverary games etc get taken into account.

There is NO EXCUSE for having teams play each other twice in the first 8 rounds in a 9 team comp.

That's going to be inevitable though, especially when the fixture must accommodate for the knockout competition. They must also work around the Anzac Day match and those anniversary matches. Having said this, I'd like to get my hands on the software which creates the draw to have a play around with it.

google free fixture creators, plenty of software their that you can use as a really good base to create the versus.

you can then place the teams in the rounds and dates you choose to.

Ooh, that sounds like fun. :) I used to make my own fixtures drawing up a table, and using numbers, ticks and crosses as references to the teams and if they play home or away.

Actually Round 3 is at Elizabeth. Visit Noarlunga for a second time later in the year. South have two trips to Alberton within 6 rounds in may/june.
