Unsure of the real benefit of having these games at SANFL venues though. Surely better off taking them out to the regional areas where they don't get as much access to AFL footy.

Why do the Eagles have two grounds? Who owns Thebarton Oval? Is it possible that the Eagles could sell Thebby or will Torrens fans go postal if that happens?

SAAFL own Thebbie REB .Though you'd know that .

I thought City of West Torrens owned it and the SAAFL had the lease.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I believe West Torrens FC owned the club rooms at Thebarton and sold up when they merged. Not sure whether WWTFC owns Woodville Oval club rooms now or lease them?

two clubs-two grounds

Enough of the two clubs joke already.
We are one club and have been that way for 20 years now.
Maybe if North were to merge they could play some finals footy

after all, thats how woodville got to play finals right? by merging with an equally pathetic club.

no thanks im happy to support 1 team in the SANFL.

If Thebby isn't up to standard for SANFL then why has there been SANFL league games played there in the last few years. Plus it will only be an AFL trial game.

FFS... Thebby is OLD NEWS!!!

We ALL need to move on - goraw, your wind ups are becoming tiresome, EHL & Micky stop taking the bait!

a) It's not a good ground - parking will be a nightmare for 10 K + AFL crowd
b) The change rooms, etc. are crap - run own & dodgy
c) Our home is Woodville - Why do we continue to cling to the idea of playing @ Thebby? If they want night footy, put bloody lights @ Woodville or BETTER still, play games @ AO!!

What about the Torrens fans or do they get a rough end to this merger?

I was one of these Torrens supporters, also played Juniors.

Means nothing now... its 20 years since the merger.

West Torrens Football Club no longer exists.
Woodville Football Club no longer exists.

The Woodville-West Torrens Football Club DOES exist & it's home ground is Woodville Oval.

If former Torrens fans want to see the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club play their games, then do what I do & go to Woodville Oval !!! If night games are 'the future', as I said, either build lights @ Woody or play games @ AO.

The '2 club' mentality is IMHO a contributing factor in our supporter base being predominantly made up of 'the blue rinse set' & the club surviving year to year. Any member (of which I am one & have been for almost a decade) will tell you that we need to attract younger people to the club, if we are to survive in the future.

I think this continued referral to the 2 former clubs & their supporters is ultimately hurting the 'new' entity.

To those who still carry baggage ( me included, as I wish my childhood team still existed - but it DOESN'T) MUST get over it & get on with it.

Our 20 year old club has played in 7 Grand Finals & won 2 Premierships.
Rejoice in what you have, rather than 'pining' for the past.

Clearly WWT have the runs on the board in terms of having made their merger a successfull one, whilst they might have played CDFC a number of times in a row in the Grannie, the rest of the SANFL with few exceptions have been the also rans of the competition for a number of times since the merger.

Whatever McDermott and others might say, there is no way a demerger will ever occur, people can talk about what Woodville or West Torrens might have been if they stayed in and got a share of the Crows revenue, yet it makes little difference to the club these days.

What perhaps could be up for discussion is the name of the club, clearly "Woodville-West Torrens" is an arkward sounding name and likely chosen because 20 years ago it was the best comprimise, if people have moved on, then perhaps its time to have a look at it and chose another name to represent the club, either Woodville, or West Torrens, or another name altogether. Its also a good opportunity to have a look at the colour combination of the club which in its current form is again difficult to mate together, perhaps an away guernsey representing only two, or one of the clubs colours with White could be another way of going?

As for Thebbie, the punters clearly enjoy the venue, the matches there are popular in terms of crowd numbers, the issue with Woodville having lights is that residential homes face the venue directly and its unlikely to ever get the green light from the council for that reason, Thebarton has no such problem. With Adelaide becoming likely an AFL exclusive venue I think its a good opportunity for Thebarton to be a good neutral venue that is almost as centrally located as Adelaide Oval is. Time will soon tell no doubt!

Two home grounds well 3 to be honest works for Wests Tigers in the NRL. It has been a long road for them but it has worked.
