Well they're now ranked sixth overall, and since joining the league they are ranked 2nd, but we're just taking it one premiership at a time :)

Its fair to say that Centrals are the number 1 side in the SANFL post SA teams in the AFL ie. since 1991.

In saying that i do think its not such a bad thing to split the SANFL timeline into 2 periods - one up to 1990, and one post 1990.

For those thinking Centrals are now the number 1 SANFL team of all time, i would ask.. if South was to win the next 9 in a row, would they then be number 1? Probably a silly question, but my point is domination over one decade doesn't supercede the other 130 years of SANFL footy.

If you really want to rank them its quite simple as Central's first league SANFL was in 1964 they must be ranked from this date.

Therefore ranking must be by number of premierships won since 1964.

1 Port Adelaide Magpies 12 flags, however if you add 2 flags by the Ethelton Magpies 98 & 99 that makes it 14 flags
2 Central District 9 flags
3 Sturt 8 flags
4 Norwood 5 flags

So using this calculation the Number one ranked team since 1964 is still the Mighty Magpies.

However if you want to be pedantic and start the ranking from 1997 when the Ethelton Magpies were formed

1 Central 9 flags
2 Ethelton Magpies 2 flags

I could go on and on but i rest my case , any other thoughts by footy followers ???
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFF.

Hit em hard let them get up and hit em again.

Simple - if you're going to count all premierships in all forms over 134 years then we 'only' rank right up there with Port, Sturt and Norwood for dominant eras. We only have 47 seasons to be cumulatively assessed on.

How (apples with apples) do we rate:
o teams like Woodville that no longer exist
o teams like West Torrens that no longer exist
o SANFL with four teams on multiple occasions
o war periods where combined teams kept the comp alive
o pre and post AFL inclusion
o merged teams like the Eagles, that have only existed for two decades

We don't. It's just an era, rather than "where we rate overall".

Mate back in the 60's and 70's believe it or not the sanfl was the envy of everyone across the land. Our teams used to offen beat mighty vfl sides and could match up well. Now central and norwood wouldnt get within 15 goals of the afl wooden spooner

Surely that was meant to be other way around. By that I mean the success should be attributed to the change of attitude and structure by the club back in the 90's.

No, I'd give that to Port under Fos Williams for their dominance in a stronger league.

In Aussie rules wearing down the opposition with as much force as the Umpires will overlook has always been "part of the game"..
If I'm going to follow it at all I have to accept that, and so do you..

if either of port, norwood, sturt, north & even my mob glenelg did this wonderful acheivement, we'd all be spruiking this dominance was the best ever, i know if glenelg won 9 out of 11 grand finals in a row i'd be saying the old bret 'hitman' hart line of ''the best there is, there best there was & the best there ever will be''....the great port & sturt sides got nowhere near 11 grand finals in a row & in those days young players didn't get drafted & not very many at all went 'over the border'.
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Surely the Central club of the last decade are now the best there ever has been in an era, overtaking Sturt of the 60's/70's and a couple of Port eras of dominance. On their way they've beaten every club except Port and South in the Grand Final.

Overall they still don't rank up there with Port.
