It's the build up to it. As I said, people who go out on a whim may not go this week, because they don't hear about it.

A lot of people will just gear themselves up for one match next week. With family and other commitments, it may be too much to be fully absorbed in both. That is why the AwFuL may have an impact.
However, we need to make it the weekend of all weekends re football: emphasise to people who may not otherwise attend the SANFL Grannie how novel it would be to watch two GF's in one weekend.

Oh! I've been building up to this since betting over last year's win. I think that the fcat that the AFL is free on the telly (except for a few) then theose who like footy will still watch one and attend the other. I reckon its only when $s are involved that one affects the other. 8)

There are some who think the SANFL GF should be before the AFL (Like the WAFL & VFL).

I for one disagree with this because you lose a lot of media coverage playing it head to head with AFL.

This week may prove an interesting case study in how much the coverage drops especially with mainstream media outlets like TV stations, fiveaa, ABC Radio and The Advertiser / Sunday Mail ... time will tell.

Looks like we are not the only ones that are going to be hit by the AFL playing next week. Next saturday is the A-league's Melbourne derby on saturday night over the road from the MCG.

I think our GF should remain in October. We usually get good press coverage in the lead up without the AFL... which will make this week very interesting..... Kris Grant and Eddie Mguire will be fighting for the print space

1. I believe the Melbourne Derby has already been switched to Friday night.

2. I can picture the headline - Krazy Kris v Evil Eddie

SANFLs worst nightmare is an AFL replay.
Not only do they lose exclusivity in regard to mainstream media it'll probably be even worse than this week with the uniqueness of the AFL GF being repeated.

With good weather and norwood in it could get 25-30000 but i fear that eagles v central may be low 20's. Think centrals fans are a bit spoilt most ive spoke to are undecided on attending, I can assure you if norwood were lucky enough to play in 11 straight I wouldnt miss any. Need u dogs supporters to help pack it out

Because they'll spend there money at pubs watching the AFL GF and won't want to spend more again the next day. Some will want to spend time with the family and most will choose the Sunday to do it.
Only die hards like yourself will want to do both and consume there whole weekend with footy. I know alot of neutrals who will not be going to the SANFL gf now and before you say it, I'm not only talking about Sturt supporters.

People who enjoy footy would already know that it's the first sunday in october.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

If they do, Weslo will have 95% of the crowd ejected by the 5 minute mark of the first quarter for throwing them over the fence.

At least with Basset as coach, the mainstream media will take more than a sidewards glance at the game.

One saving grace re the crowd for next week: six clubs are represented on the day, all with a realistic hope of winning a premiership (West and Glenelg in the Under 18's, Port and Sturt in the Ressies, Central and Norwood in the League). Hopefully this will see increased numbers.
