Interesting how different people see games. I thought Davenport's class in the conditions shone out for West like a fog lamp.

While he may have picked up some stats I thought he was ordinary. Wouldn't have hit a target all day (not the only one mind you) and barely chased or put his head over the ball. Him and Scott Harding have been major disappointments for us this year.

b & r, I agree with most of your summary, except for your statement that Norwood are a younger and less experienced team than West.

Apart from that, Norwood were a class above West today and it showed up West's lack of key forwards and damaging midfielders.

West have come from being a basket case to 8 wins last year and 10 this year. Norwood have a core of very experienced players and their midfield is as good, if not better, than any in the league.

PS: I didn't get a good view, but Phillips kicked a goal where he seemed to take possession just inside 50 and goaled from only a few metres out. I thought he bounced once, but I was told he didn't bounce at all. Did anyone see it better than me and confirm whether this was a record distance withoit bouncing or not :)

R&B, I think it was a record distance without bouncing also, agreed there.

As for touching it on the ground, though, that's a different story :)

Pretty sure he bounced it once but that was within the first 5 metres of him getting the ball.

No worries, CK, as I said, i didn't get a good view.

Just for the record, did he touch it on the ground or bounce it and what distance did he cover?

It seemed to be at least 40 metres, so he would have needed a minimum of two?

I hasten to add it's just for interest only, nothing about the (non) decision.

Was that the goal that happened when westies players seemed more intent on the fight than the ball and consequently a goal being scored by norwood?

I saw at least one midway through, and reckon Bloods08 is right about the early one also. Never considered it a decision that looked in doubt, to be honest.

From where we stood on the hill R&B it looked as though Flipper ran the 50 yard dash before goaling, whether he bounced or touched without us seeing I cant answer .. Either way it's inconsequential as it was a fairly one sided game.

Given a win was the minimum requirement, I was surprised (and relieved) Westies didn't throw Ferguson forward to start the 2nd quarter .. Regardless, solid improvement again from the Bloods this year and I think they'll only be harder to beat again in 2011.

For our boys, very well played .. Thought we controlled the onball well today, but whether we can match it with the Bays is another matter, but regardless we did all we could today, we take that, and we see what next week holds for us when it comes around.

Yes, it was. Haven't seen many of those this year, but that was one of the easier decisions the umpires had today.

Was a very similar decision made yesterday at Elizabeth, resulting in a Todd Grima goal to the Tigers...

Yes, CP, the result was never realy in doubt today. Your blokes were far too good and made much better decisions with the footy than we did.

As for Ferguson, he was our best player again today, quite remarkable considering the severe injury he's had to overcome. It was also interesting to see Shane Birss dominate the Ressies game with 36 possessions, so I hope he'll be a good player for us next year.

Thanks for the info, CK. I should say I had no problem at all with the umps today.

DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH
WA age group today
2 x 28 year olds Piasente, Ferguson
Then I reckon the rest were between 20-24 years old
Thus = no teenagers [Bayman I mean Helbig played last week, but didnt today, why ?]
This group has the potential to play for another 3-5 years together as a group
Thats a real positive for WA

2011
Recruiting ?
Defence is stable
Midfielders go ok
Need a couple of strong marking key position players
Someone like Clint Alleway[or a firing Danny WEBB] would be the type

ANDREW LEE
Listed in the b grade today
Ive heard he has injury probs ?
Whats his future at the Parade ?

I dont think that would ever surprise anyone in the SANFL mate, he's a superstar of this competition ... Hence my point about throwing him forward in the 2nd when you had the very favourable wind at your backs (after such a great defensive job in the first quarter) .. I don't have a problem with defence ever being a priority for any team, but when you could afford nothing less than a win I reckon that was the time to get your best player in the most dangerous area.

Anyway thats just me, Im actually a massive Andy Collins fan and he would know more than all of us put together.

I think all West Adelaide supporters would agree with you.

There is no coincidence that we played our best footy when Fergy was thrown forward.

From a very limited knowledge of the Nwd team I reckon the comparison of young players in today's match looked something like this:
17yo, Nwd 1, WA 0
18yo, Nwd 1, WA 0
19yo, Nwd 2, WA 0
20yo, Nwd 1, WA 1
21yo, Nwd 2, WA 2
This would have a third of Nwds team 21 or under. While Westies, in the last game of the season (when you would expect a few kids to have worked their way through), had 3 players 21 or under. We had Webb and Beech, 2 of our most promising young players, playing in the 2s. Webb there due to poor form. Also in the 2s were experienced players like J Rowe, Champion, Birss, Langford, Krakouer, Chubb and Scott Harding. Possibly only Birss could reasonably demand a place in the senior team.
So where are our young guns? Granted the U18s are playing some great footy but our record of retention of these kids is not good.

Gracious as always I see. Thanks for helping me decide who to follow next week.

It was a bit misleading, I meant West Adelaide FC don't deserve it with their horrible style of footy. West supporters obviously don't have any say it in. So no hard feelings to your fans.

And if my comment has got you so upset that it'll make you go for the Bays, then good for you.
