And as an aside, his dad Neville "Nifty" Miller played for Westies in the early to mid 70s. Given that Brad Gotch says that he is a class above VFL, I wonder if Westies in particular would be interested. Remember too that Ryan Ferguson would have been a teammate of his.

Nothing like a stupid simplistic answer - you have no idea do you?

Have to agree with Beefy. I'd love all the bst players to be with the club but it's the way of the world and it'd be unfair to hold these blokes back.

What I'd really love to see is an alternate to the rookie list where these players are allowed to stay with their SANFL clubs instead of being stuck in the VFL. Might work out cheaper for the AFL clubs themselves if they've got a call up list in the case of an unusually long injury list or a tragedy (touch wood) such as what happened to Troy Broadbridge occurs again.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

with this 'rule' i reckon if a person moved interstate for work they then couldn't stop him from playing in his new state....could they ??

And when Jason Roe first went to Brisbane on the rookie list it was strongly rumoured that a deal was being contemplated that he played for North in the SANFL rather than in the much weaker QAFL. Of course that came to nothing and now he is playing in the much weaker WAFL. North couldn't match the offer made to him by East Perth!!!!

I know he did, but there wasn't an option to do that. I'm saying there should be.

He's on a fair bit of coin if you include the job they lined up for him.

I wouldn't say the WAFL is "much weaker", they did knock off the SA side last year.

The issue is not just if players get picked up in March. It is the fact that the AFL clubs will have them train up until then before they decide. If 18 clubs have 4 players training over preseason that is 72 players. If a third of the most rokkie-able players came from SA then we are talking about 20 or so SANFL players at various clubs around the country. Imagine a SANFL club trying to plan it's season with 3 or 4 of their key players not knowing what is going on until a fortnight before Round 1. Puts them in a ridiculous position. The timing is the issue, not the extra opportunities.
