That's just scapegoating. Once the WCE entered the VFL, the SANFL had no choice. The SANFL knew it's hand was forced and there'd be no way a national competition of sorts could continue on without SA involvement. While people may not have been happy about PAFC entering into some sort of negotiation with the expanded VFL at the time, really they just gave the league the kick up the arse to get moving on it themselves.

The SANFL can only survive as is if those licenses remain owned by the 9 clubs. Once that changes and the two clubs become independant, this league will devolve into an A1 amateur league.

It'll be a joke because the two AFL clubs will screw this league at every opportunity.

if PAMFC are keen on merging, why not merge with South Adelaide?
or perhaps even an Amateur club...

As soon as South Adelaide become a football club it might be a possibility.

And you'd be happy with that? Once you were free, then you thought you were free, then you were told you were free and then you woke up and you were in chains.

No thanks... Suggest you head down to Woodville Oval to begin discussions with the Woodville West Torrens who were started from the PAFC and played at Alberton Oval way back when - think they have some experience in how to handle amalgamations! - Woodville Oval, Green - Yellow - Blue Guernsey, Eagles Logo will probably swing it for you guys!

Sturt move to Mount Barker, share Sturt's zone around Adelaide with West, South & Port, Central move Club & oval north to the new suburb of Playford Alive as a land swap with the council (approximately 20,000 + people moving into the area in the next 15 years, inc. more RAAF & Army personnel & families), give Port a little bit more of our southern edge of our zone. Helps Port, West, Sturt & South (hopefully). Thoughts?

Sounds like it'd be even harder to get a decent crowd to a game with Sturt at Mt Barker and Centrals further north than what they already are

Why? Mount Barker is just 15 minutes from the tollgate, Glenelg Oval is about 15 minutes from Adelaide. Centrals move north is only about 5 minutes extra. Opposition supporters don't come out to Elizabeth anyway but maybe they would if they were surrounded by new homes, new facilities, such as a Mawson Lakes styled shopping precinct, a brand new $12 million bus/rail interchange ( a TOD, to be exact) with an electrified rail system, the northern expressway just 600 metres away.

Well I'm sure they would if it was feasible, they'd love one tier of football underpinned by a TAC Cup style comp nationwide and the local leagues dead, but they know it's way too expensive to run a reserves comp in the AFL.

Demetriou on a visit to WA said he was happy with the current structure with the Eagles and Dockers players being allocated to WAFL clubs, but I wouldn't doubt that'd be different if the TV rights were somehow 3 billion dollars.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

You may have a point Centurion, I guess I've always looked at games at Elizabeth and Noarlunga and the crowds and put it down to the added distance for punters to travel. In the end though you're right, the time and distance isn't that much but that's being logical

It sounds excellent, but is there a pressing need for Centrals to move?

If We don't recognise the pending population explosion, another club might want to get their grubby mitts on the area.

If I see a WAFC junior playing in any AFL reserve side in the SANFL then thats the end of Aussie Rules at all levels for me. I'm certain it wont happen though!

To probably the surprise of nobody here

"Firth told the Power on Thursday night the $230,000 his club needed by the end of October has been raised from members and sponsors, some of whom have made interest-free loans to the Magpies."

Now play on and stop flogging the dead horse.

Port Adelaide's problem is: too big for the SANFL,too small for the AFL.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.
