I would have thought Taylor Walker would have been as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike in those conditions.

Of course you would have. At the very least he would’ve straightened us up and given the guys up the field more confidence in simply getting the ball deep, something we seemed to be against tonight.

Just got home.

Forget Anzac Day, this is our best win of the year so far. The oval was the biggest bog I've seen in a long time, with standing puddles of water everywhere. But our blokes just kept putting their heads over the ball at every contest.

I went tonight thinking I might leave with the thought of "why did I even bother going to that", and if one looks at the scoreline then they might think that it was a pretty boring game of footy...IMO they couldn't be more wrong. I found it very entertaining with players from both sides trying valiantly to press the ball forward at every opportunity...much less stoppages than one might expect in such conditions. In fact I reckon this is the best "wet weather" performance by the SFC league team for a decade or more. Hats off to Normo!

Norwood were tough, very tough...and they fought back strongly a couple of times in the last quarter. But our mob once again controlled large portions of the game and could press the button when required. We finally got the score on the board through sheer desperation and perseverance. Despite the conditions - standing in the cold and driving rain - this is the most joyful I have been after a win this year.

Best Players are difficult because I struggled to see the full length of the oval...I didn't even know who kicked our goals until I saw this thread. And I didn't know who had to be taken off on a stretcher. Others may differ but from what I saw Giles was outstanding, as was our other big man Tarzan Bowen, particularly early. Crane had a blinder of a last quarter. Herring controlled the ball well when it was delivered properly to him. Our defence was very solid again and Macca had one of his best games of the year. For Rowe to kick 4 goals out of 5 is a very impressive effort.

Sensational Blues. Sen-bloody-sational!!! What a great start to the weekend!! Time to make it 3 on the trot!!!!

So while its a GREAT win...

... and football is the WINNER when Norwood loses... :-)

Sturt still need to climb a mountain to make it.

I just hope he can kick the same 10 goals that he was going to get this week against Sturt that he was mouthing off about to a Sturt player earlier in the week.

I think that same player is lining up with him tomorrow so if he kicks 10 against Collinwood good luck to him. If he gets 2 handballs, he might have to kick his ten against the Bays next week. ;)

I'm sure it was all just a bit of friendly fun between AFL team mates.

Neither side is good enough. That was pathetic tinight. Worst I've seen Norwood play all year, and Sturt were almost as bad.

Never been a fan of Sturt, although have always respected them and thought tonight they were clearly the better team .. Belive that we're capable of much more than tonights effort but whether we justify that thought remains to be seen, hats off to the Blues, hope we can reverse the result if we meet again.

I thought Norwood really battled hard, both teams had times where they were on top, I thought Norwood more so, that tall guy you had sitting in the square was a real problem for us... Norwood can and will play better come finals... they need to in order to help everyone stop Centrals.

Tough, hard game of footy, it seemed Sturt were a bit more desperate than Norwood.
Norwood were far too indirect and wanted to play dry weather footy, sturt played the conditions a lot better.

Strut won. Fair call played the conditions better than us.

Don't overlook the fact that Matt Davis and Stuart Bown were key injuries we couldnt cover, especially Bowny at CHB in that last qtr.

At least Fatboy Chambers didn't break Schulz's record at Norwood Oval.

Minor setback as we charge on towards the Premiership!

He probably would CP I reckon Sheedy might be giving it a nudge also, sad thing is that I think we will be lucky to keep Giles for next year.

Would be a nice kick start for the end of season trip - they could even take the whole Snouts Louts crew with them as well!

Why would they take us? Not that I'd complain mind you... :partyman:

Cheers mate, Sheedy is a Rolls Royce and about the only one I don't have covered in the medal that I'm really worried about .. Agree on Giles though, I reckon he would have to be under the watch of several AFL clubs - everytime I've seen him this year he's been exceptional

Really very simple.... we played dry weather football in wet conditions. Too much handball but moreso too much short passing by foot rather than quick movement into the forward lines.
Unlike some I do not question our endevour.
Sturt always had someone wide of the pack especially up forward and this is where most of their goals came from. Our guys are trying to to kick the ball by breaking a tackle or being dragged to the ground.
The conditions did not suit our style of football and finals will not be played in those conditions. Our style of football will come to the fore in the finals.

You never cease to provide a good laugh Adelaide Hawk...

Put any two teams in the conditions that they had to play in last night and the game wouldn't be any better.

I can't ever remember an oval looking as bad as the Parade did last night...

Sturt made more of their opportunities. Hope we end up meeting you in an elimination final. You'll be kicked off the park...

CC, I'm not sure if you saw the ABC game today but they showed Sturt v West in the u/18s at Unley Oval last week and it looked atrocious. With the amount of rain prior to the match, it is hardly surprising that ANY ground suffered dearly by the time you add 50 guys with spriggs for 5 hours or so.

The club has spent a lot of money on Coopers Stadium in recent years upgrading the surface, installing rainwater detention tanks, upgrading the lights etc. We have two full time groundsmen there as well, who are employed by the club. I'm not really sure why so many Sturt supporters want to call the ground a "bog" and a "quagmire" etc because it hasn't been like that in winter for many seasons now, unless there is as much rain as there has been in past days and then it's no different to any other ground.
