not short memories at all, i just said what i would like to happen, we know it wont & we all live with it & we take the good with the bad......i'll still bet that a few players will say ''i don't want to take someones spot'' at the end of the month & it all wont be their choice
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

100% agree, but if your at work and your boss asks you to do a 'fairly' reasonable task you either do it or risk being sacked.

i know & they do what they're told & i understand that, it's just me i would rather the afl clubs come out & say this bloke or that bloke isn't available because we don't want to risk him & the details aren't for the public & therefore whatever the reason is doesn't matter rather than that they put the onus on the player themselves which imho is wrong & at times makes the player look selfish

hypothetically,
could you imagine that symes, walker & logan all get dropped to cd, nwd & glg for the next 4 weeks with all 3 clubs knowing that they wont be available for the finals, what kind of preparation would that be for those teams in the lead up to the finals...i'd play them in the 2's as too not interrupt the lead up :D

yeah in the perfect world you would want to play them in the ressies but with ladder positions up for grabs i think you need to play your best available especially a player like Walker who hypothetically could be the difference between 3rd and 4th.

I would also much rather the AFL clubs be more honest about the situation as well, that would probably be my only criticism of the current regulations regarding AFL players.

An interesting comment was raised here by someone which was should some clubs for example the Eagles name an injured player such as Burton on their reserves team sheets even if there not planning to play him so they then could qualify for the finals. Playing 1 short in the ressies may hurt a little but the advantage of having him playing finals could be massive BUT

1. would the crows allow it?
2. would it be considered unsportsmanlike
3. would the Eagles care about number 2.

Mark Williams did that when he was coaching Glenelg in 1993. I can't recall who the player was, but this player sat on the bench in the Reserves to qualify for the finals. I should have saved the article when I came across it recently.

would be considered by most clubs wouldn't it, interestingly Central could have used this to there advantage in the first few rounds of the year when Brad Symes was injured he would then have qualified and our reserves were getting smashed anyway.

Should the rule be players need to play 5 LEAGUE games to qualify for finals just food for thought?

Will be interesting to see who heads off to the surgeons this week, with both clubs out of finals contention and draft picks at a premium with GC snaffling 50% of the first round picks.

Out of interest, does anyone know the exact number of games each of the qualified players has played this year for their respective SANFL clubs? Eg Will Young played only 1 for the Crows (vs Sydney) but missed about 4-5 for Norwood to have a knee op. So he would have played about 12 games for us.

AFL players to return for SANFL Finals.

Postby udogs01 » Thu Aug 12, 2010 9:18 am

With the Crows and Power not likely to make finals can anyone post a list of which players are eligible to play in SANFL finals and for which teams.
How much do we think it will influence the finals....who will benefit the most ?????

I'm reliably informed that in the case of players in Moran's situation some discretion can be exercised and permission to play in finals can be granted.

Why?
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

Presumably because the 5 game qualification was meant to apply to players available for AFL selection, not to those unavailable due to long-term injury.

It would be a disgrace if someone like Moran was able to play finals having not qualified under the normal process.

Disagree. Has not played any football for 15 months so I believe should be allowed to play.
