To everyone who says that anyone can coach the dogs to a flag [-X you know nothing, nothing

It's probably true, not everyone can coach Central to a flag, just everyone whose tried in the past 10 years. I'll turn it around and ask how Laird would fare if he were coaching South. To a lesser extent, if Laird took over Norwood at the beginning on 2010, would he have them in the top 3? I'm betting no.

So after 15 games your saying Basset is a better coach than a 6 time premiership coach.

Not enough credit gets given to Lairdy for his ability to continue motivating the players and having them 'up' each week.

Has played some master strokes in GF's as well,

1/ having Eddie Sansbury one out in the goal square on a very raw Adam Cooney. Not all 5 goals were kicked on Cooney but the first couple were and was the catalyst behind his performance. Add to that the use of Sibenaler on Bradshaw. Sibs only played a handful of games that year.

2/ The GF against the Eagles where we rucked to their taps and dominated the center clearances all day long.

3/ Against North Ben Hart dominated early from a wing until Laird placed usual defender Nathan Grima in a tagging role on him. and killed all day. Also bringing Alan Obst into the side for the second to last minor round game and keeping him in the side, he was brilliant in the finals.

4/Last years first final against Sturt in which the last couple of minutes Lairdy moves Giles into the forward line, the big man gets on a lead, takes a mark and kicks the match winning goal.

OK a month on and if the Eagles finish top three with the list he has to work with surely Micky Godden has got to be considered?? Top bloke Godsy.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

What about 2007? Season spluttering along, performing very poorly, Roy had the balls to change the whole game plan mid-season, which in turn earned Us the Premiership, He is a bloody good coach, doesn't get enough credit. BUT, the title should go to the coach who wins the flag, simple as that.

Don't disagree with that, but that isn't the system we have right now. Having said that, if you ask Rubbers what title he would rather have: "2009 SANFL Coach of the Year" or "2009 SANFL League Premiership coach" I know what he'd rather have and what all the coaches would rather have.
