South after watching most of the U18's(had to dash home to take my sick son home just before the game ended) seconds and all the league theres not much in cupboard for Ron to work with.
South 18's were faster but no skills
South seconds also lacked skills
Souths league team had the skills but couldn't go four terms (a change from last time).

But end of the day Eagles had a win thats all that matters ;)

About Polec, other teams have played some U/18's in the league earlier in the year such as Gorringe and Lycett, and weeks ago it was mentioned on this forum he may not have come back with the best attitude after his rise into the league late last year. Which is it?

Watching the South reserves, I reckon their average age would be lucky to be 18.
Intersted to see Mark Williams there, presumably watchig Robbie Grey

Crowd mentioned on LifeFM as 2181, not huge but reasonable for an Eagles/South game.

Very happy re the crowd yesterday when you consider
Eagles hosting South in last two years average has been 1297 per game (yesterday 68% above that average)
and South have not won since April 26 so were hardly likely to turn up in larger numbers.

Eagles home games v South crowds last 2 years
2009 Rd 20 1592 (@Thebarton)
2009 Rd 5 1191
2008 Rd 19 1107

The 2181 was biggest crowd to Eagles v South @ Woodville since 2005

and hopefully now at 2,495 per home game this year
with our biggest threat for a low crowd passed
and with home games against Glenelg, Central & Sturt to come
it gives Eagles a great chance (weather permitting) to get past the 2,500 perhome game mark this year

That would be some solid growth after averaging 2056 per home game in 2008.

Pity he suffered in being an AFL lab rat for half a season.

Jared was playing poorly in the reserves at the start of the year and was dropped to the U18s and told by the senior coach that he was ahead of himself and needed to go back to the U18s play good footy find some form and don't worry about anything else.

To his credit he did that after being a bit scratchy in the first couple of weeks he found form got back into the reserves played well there and could have been selected in the league if Eagles wanted there was no rule preventing that.

He then had an outstanding u18 carnival made all-Australian played a couple of excellent reserves games then league selection.

They are the facts Spelly so I don't know what you are talking about and again I don't think you do either.

Williams was asked by Pathetic Pitman just to come to the footy "just for something to do" so he did. He was not there on any official capacity.

I know because? ----- I was talking to him. He said he honestly had no idea what he was going to. But he said his oldest son (about 12 yo I think and can apparently play a bit) said "don't worry dad I will get drafted by Collingwood under the father son rule and we can go back there and live".

It was a good relaxed chat.

Yes, give Ron 3 years at least.

Only Miricles happen in the blink of an eye.

Footy teams take a little longer ;)

Ok, so I embellished it a bit. I knew about his early season form, so perhaps you didn't know what I really meant. 8 weeks for the, lets say "Under 18 Championship campaign". That's a far cry from the three weeks Matthew Pavlich spent in the same campaign in 1999.

Since you seem to be stalking me for my anti-AFL influence posts now, I'll refrain from making any more such comments.

Attrocious weather (esp 2008) for both those games at Woodville would account for very low figures.

Grocke an integral part of our team, generally underestimated by other teams' supporters.
Polec a class act and will get drafted unfortunately for the Eags.
Smith looks a smooth mover and will probably go too.
Bock a class above, straight back to Crows.
Grieger tight as today, gives away pigeons and boomerangs
Parry, top class today esp in second efforts
South very competitive for 3 quarters but lack class.
Eagles still make too many skill errors and this will be fatal against the top sides.

A: No.

That's what the first half was like.

Why should he?

He was ducking his head taking a dive.

I took the picture. And it's a camera which has a screen to view it from so I wasn't looking through a small viewfinder.

Actually it looks to me like McKernan is trying to hold him up after he slipped over, so as to not hurt himself

What about the eye gouge from the South player behind McKernan? And Rowntree kneeing McKernan in the hip. All clearly evident from this photo.

Yep, I rekon Redigolo has 7ft arms to reach McKenzie from where he is.

Pretty interesting that Rowntree is even thinking about kneeing McKernan in the hip.

McKenzie looks to have the ball tucked up into his face, just as you would expect when you do the splits and being protected from hurting yourself at the same time.
