Qu x Qu results:

Qu 1 - equal
Qu 2 - CD +31pts
Qu 3 - WA +3pts
Qu 4 - WA +5pts

CD continue to struggle in the second half. As per Scott's ladder, they have won 4 third quarters and 3 third quarters all year. If teams can stay close at half time they are every chance (on the stats at least) to run over Central in the second half.

4th qtr 3 late goals helped when the game was dead and buried

Didn't see myself but spoke to 5-6 different people who all sit at different spots at the ground and they all said he played well.

He is only playing for the Dogs when Berri have a bye or association game as they did today.

Jason Sutherland had:

12 possessions
1 goal
4 marks (2 very strong overhead pack marks)
33 hitouts

He certainly showed some promise in the ball ups, getting his hand on it first on most occasionss. 'Pumpa' did look like he was lacking the fitness level, even for reserves, at present but I reckon he did enough for the club to be keen to have another look at him.

Talking some Dogs officials, if they see enough in him, they will ask him to come down full time for the Dogs, it's then up to him to play in the 2's until the opportunity may come up or keep playing for Berri on some reasonably good coin, from what I'm lead to believe.

why sit in different spots? why not just sit in the one spot?

What i meant was i spoke to 5 or 6 different people who dont know each other, one sits on the members, one sits on the outer, one stands behind the goals for example.

Thats me in different positions whufc :D

Apparently not on that great of coin, him and five other mates went up there together, all five blokes equally split the average between them. There main benifit is the perks the club gives them but not cash, more like drinks etc.

Firstly, sorry I stopped with the live scores - as predicted, Lil Miss DW kept me busy in the second half.

I enjoyed watching this game, mostly because it was a rare chance for me to watch the Doggies.

Westies got something in junk time, with both Schell and Havelberg injured and Buckets on the bench at the end.

Impressed by Hardy and Hayes working through defence and pushing forward. Switter had a good game and Callinan - Magarey winner? - along with Boyd were good.

For Westies, Sue Sylvester worked well, the Caruso boys showed glimpses, while I was very impressed with Riverland lad Johnno Beech (possible draft pick?).

Central had too much class in a dour affair.

From a Riverland point of view I noticed Pumpa in the rooms after the game, so he was getting into the groove down there.

Actually wasn't Piasente Bruce, it was the big fella in Ryan Willits...

It was poor form on his part and even worse was that umpire Gary Fila was no more than 5 metres away and was looking in that general direction and didn't even pay a free down field, poor umpiring I felt.

Also, despite not being booked then and there for the late, reckless elbow to the head of Adam Switala, don't be surprised if Adam Hartlett has a trip to the tribunal during the week. Certainly wasn't deliberate and no malice in it but it was reckless.

I actually thought he would be reported for that - but, then again, it's not the AFL.

i don't know anything about the clearance rules or regulations BUT Jason mentioned something about not needing a clearance if he was going to play in a higher level league. Like i said i don't know anything about the rules just going by what he said.

A glance at the final score of this match would suggest a reasonably tight contest: CD 10.6, WA 6.7.. Not so. Westies were comprehensively outplayed all day by a tougher, faster and more skilled team.

The day was fine and cool and conditions were excellent. Westies played Steven Morris, rucked Ryan Willets and left out S Blesing and S Munn.

The first Q was tough and tight. Both teams searching for clear ground. Scores were locked at 1.1 apiece at the end of this scrappy stanza. Westies cracked early in the second Q. Their game unraveled into a stream of mistakes as they lapsed into what could simply be described as ‘dumb’ footy. Silly free kicks, clumsy tackles, appalling turnovers, kicking out of bounds on the full, dreadful mistakes all let the Dogs in for a 5 gl Q against a scoreless Bloods outfit. Half time: CD 6.2, WA 1.1

The third was an uninspiring affair until Westies kicked their second goal at the 15 min mark after a wonderful mark from Nat Caruso. For a few fleeting minutes Westies played some great footy and looked a chance to claw their way back into the game but a late Centrals goal had the 3Q time score CD 7.4 to WA 2.6. Reflect for a moment on the fact that in 3 Qs of footy Westies had kicked a paltry 2 goals.

The last Q saw Westies show some fight and boot 4 but at this point Centrals were cruising and they added 3 to maintain a comfortable buffer. The game was of little interest to anyone at this point.

There is no big secret to Centrals game. They use the kick more than the handball (202 kicks, 107 HBs), they tackle hard and they employ the corridor to goal. Westies overdo the handball especially moving the ball from defence, they maximize numbers at the ball, they move sideways and backwards and when they do get the ball into their fwd line there is hardly anyone there and as a result the ball rebounds at a frightening speed. Centrals were far more skilful and had clear arial supremacy taking 97 marks to Westies 64.

Beech kicked 2 gls in the last Q and Nat and Fort Caruso also got 2 apiece. Bennett had 2 set shots from 30 mtrs out for 2 points. It is a thankless job being FF at Richmond but he continues to underperform and has had a very disappointing season.. Best for Westies were Piasente, Ezard, the 2 Carusos, Silvester, Thompson and Birss. Schmidt got plenty of the ball but lets himself down with poor disposal. Webb looked slow and disinterested but was better when he went into ruck. Willets must surely go back to the 2s after looking outclassed. Morris ran out the game well although he was cramping late. There are a brace of players that really do struggle at this level: Champion, Fielke, Willets, Bennett. Another group just above them that are honest triers: Thompson, Rowe, Caire, Davies, Anderson. Most of these would struggle to make another league team. Time for some young blood.

The only good news was an amazing come from behind win by the 2s. Half way thru the 3Q they had only kicked 2 gls and were 5 down. They won 9.10 to 8.12. 2 Centrals players were reported in the last Q. Bornholm, Homburg and Harding deserve a chance at the next level.
