I said in another thread I thought there may have just been 1500 people at this game today...

Not too far off in the end, thanks to PhilH who posted below in the other thread also...

Was talking to Port CEO Megsy Edwards pre-game and he told me he was extremely confident his boys would win today...

He'd no doubt be a happy man tonight, but he did mention to me he was very dissapointed with the scheduling of this game obviously...

Watched the game today and Port deserved a win after being very competitive in their previous games including an unlucky close loss to North however take Trengrove and Cloke out there would be no way that Port would have been close today IMO and truly they are the only SANFL club praying on AFL selection day for the availability of AFL fringe players!

Summerton is a class act and has been for a few seasons - he always carves up North despite how well or poorly the pies are playing. We should have got him as well as Elstone - time for Mr. Gerard to fill another brown paper bag!

As for the crowd - I have had my weekly anti-port crack on another topic!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Does that classify as a crowd?

Port must have only had about 20% (max.) of its proud and passionate members there today.

Nothing untoward about Clayton's late withdrawal. Had genuine sudden and serious close family illness, but situation has now improved

I couldn't get there today due to work. GAY.

Massively good result for the Magpies though. So happy we put in another good performance and came away with the points.

Steve Summerton is a gun. He really is quality every time he goes near the pill.

Port had some injury concerns, and effectively finished the game with only 18 fit players, so it's extra pleasing to have the 2 points tonight.

COME ON YOU MAGPIES!!!!

He was on the official injury list as have a foot problem and was down as having a 'test'.

He wasn't playing in the game yesterday until Jeremy Clayton withdrew* from the side 15 minutes before the first bounce, where Lokan was pulled out* of the stands and fronted for the Maggies, albeit in Jordan Erskine's number 4 jumper and not his usual number 17.

Will be interesting to hear in coming days exactly why Clayton didn't front for the Maggies and if as reported, it was a personal family issue, fair enough, but why leave it until 15 minutes before the first bounce to let the club know you aren't playing ?

Cloke and Trengove were clearly the difference between the 2 sides. South not mentally switched on like last week, good in patches but ordinary in others.
Have got to say something about the umpiring. It was very, very ordinary-it didnt favour any team in particular, but it was a very inept performance..

Well done Port - Outplayed South yesterday and deserved the win (just look at the inside 50's!) by probably more than the final scorecard.
South were ok - but that was it. Still, we expect a rollercoaster of cheers and tears for the 2010 season.

On a final sour grapes note - "BOO!" to the idiot punter who in the first quarter retrieved the ball from over the boundary line threw it 20 meters away from McKernan, whilst he was only 5 meters away from him. It made no impact on the game, but people like that just need their heads read. (I'm going to assume that he wasn't just a terrible throw...)

Without going into the specifics of the issue, out of respect for all parties, there was an absolutely fair and reasonable reason for Jeremy Clayton not playing.

It wasn't an idiot punter. It was an idiot Magpie official, complete with corporate attire and ID card. It probably wasn't a deliberate attempt to waste time 'cos we all know the 'Pies wouldn't stoop that low. And If it was, we can trust the Umpires to have made a report etc., and issued the appropriate penalty. So it was just an oops.

Not surprised Port won. Last week was personal for Fuller and he had South pumped up to the max. Hard for South to keep that effort up again against a competitive port.

Cloke was outstanding, Bucky Summerton will look fantastic in the number 1 guesrnsey in the coming years and I thought Trengove was also very impressive.Slattery showed poise in the back half when needed and was also very important.

Cockshell looks to finally have realised just how big of a unit he is and now seems set to become a consistent SANFL player.

Good win by the Maggies and I feel there are more to come.

Well done Port.South back to old ways not putting in for 4 quarters. After half time didnt really want the ball and Port did. Rollercoaster this year. Hopefully back on next week against West. I think it was really evident that the boys didnt have the legs coz of the 5 day break. Whoever came up with Port v South
on Saturday against Power/Crows and giving South just 5 days to recover with Port 8 days needs to have a look at themselves. Not good enough and probably cost South 2 points and Magpies thousands in lost revenue due to low crowd. Would have been over 4000 if played on Sunday which should have been. Back to the training track for South. Dont want to pick on any players but a lot are not consistent. Very good one week, ordinary the next.
