The senior players looked slow, the junior players not up to it. Sturt made them all look silly. Depth completely tested and found wanting at the Ponderosa, put this game aside and look forward is the best way for us I think.

Still (just) better than stopping home and mowing the lawns.

BTW as for Sturt getting favours from the umps, that statement can only be ironic surely.

Agreed zippy. Great win, but this can only be considered a launching pad for better things. Beating Central by that much in the minor round counts for nothing later in the year. There are plenty of examples of Central being crap at this time of year. Well done on your last minute bet on the Doubles Blues too zippy :D Wish I'd done the same. Like you, I had a funny feeling about this game all week.

Fantastic captains game from Sheeds and other solid contributors included Crane (how about those clearances!), Gum, Giles, Chambo, McIntyre, Bowen, Bratton, Jaensch, Vassal, Fittock, Cubillo, Nelson, McGlone and Wark.

Wonderful spirit showed by the entire team after Giles booted his major...and I thought Buckets' influence was (for a change) very restricted.

Great win Blues! But MUST make it stick next Fri night against the Legs...Will we get Macca back? Did anyone see the 2s?
Apparently we won the ressies by 40 pts, no thanks to the scoreboard attendant who must have taken the scores down just 3 mins after the final siren! BOOOO! In addition, the pies were allegedly crap, the hotdogs were completelt f*kn awful and the number of deck chairs on the western wing...well...perhaps they should make a designated "standing only" area at HHO and cram all the deck chairs into some other corner. I hate sitting down at the footy...

(FWIW, I thought Gowans looked old, slow and a genuinely useless, grumpy old man today)

Wow, some of you guys don't learn. Glad you've updated it for 2010, saves going back to some of the posts after the Dogs got thrashed by the Blues at Unley last year.

Also one of the differences from last year, is early last year we weren't missing about six players.
A very good win to Sturt (though) not unexpected.

LMAO..not unexpected my ar5e! =)) A (very) few of us had a funny feeling we might get* up...but not by that margin.
Oh and if you did read my post you would have noticed that beating the Dogs later in the year is the real challenge...injuries or no injuries, we'll take the 2 points though. I'm sure even some Dogs supporters would agree that Gowans had a shocker today. Cheers.

csbowes wrote:For me, Sturt just KO'd Central with 30 minutes of sensational football in the opening term. We banged 4 goals on the board before Central got its first major and to be up by 26 points at quarter time was a fair reflection of the game. It was good, direct football, using the open spaces to our advantage, making Central run and run and run. The second term was a chance for Central to get back in it, but we put the first two on the board and extended the lead to 39 points at half-time.

For Central, who cares, one early season loss does not make any difference to them.

For Sturt, back on track, just need to keep that up, as we've already seen them fall back to crap football a week after a good win.

Was very impressed by Sturt. Far better than against the Bays and better than the Eagles played against them. They played proper footy, little mucking around, assertive handball, concerted efforts at the body, and a preparedness to do little things, especially shepherding.

Centrals often do have a small hiccup smoehwere during the season, but what must be concerning for them is they looked disinterested in getting themselves "up" for a big game and occasion.

Chambers was sensational. "Won" at least five of his goals, they weren't easy hand-offs.

THought umpiring was generally pretty good, except for Centrals getting the better of some inconsistencies in the third.

Then you missed the fact Sturt were on the positive end of some inconsistencies in other quarters, which combines to provide some poor umpiring.

All I would like to see are umpires who pay free kicks for the same stuff all day instead of apparently changing interpretation after each break.

Sturt winning was not unexpected. I tipped them in a previous post, a few of you thought they'd get up. You're easily amused. Simple things for simple minds I guess. Cheers

Yeah, great game for Sturt well done you were due for a win at Elizabeth after eleven attempts, you could see from the first bounce you were going to win this game.
Nice to see Gunston the Crows rookie play his first league game, apart from that we were smashed all over the ground. however its still early in the year and we still have a few players to come back into the side, big test next week against the Cocks.
Well done Blue boys.
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

Unley and Norwood also use 'Centrals' while Glenelg, Prospect, and Noarlunga often depends on the scoreboard attendant (I've seen both Central and Centals used at these three grounds)

We are Centrals. :?

We are also Central District, the dogs, the bulldogs, the reigning premiers. Glad the scoreboard got yet another mention on SAFooty though.

I get sick of people bashing umpires... Centrals made more errors than the umpires by a mile. Sturt were excellent. I have never seen Joffa fire up like that. Sturt had the game won well before half time. Luckily, they only seem to do it at Elizabeth in years ending with 0.

The Blues way too good today. Not unusual to see the Dogs put in a shocker after a run of wins but not usually at home and certainly not on Anzac Day. Probably a good result for the SANFL though as it evens up the top 5 or so a bit.
We may be in for a tough month or so with those injured not due back for a while.
I'll be happy if we can win one of the next 2 against North & Port (both away) which will leave us with 4 out of 6 wins with a bye to follow. We then have a couple of home games to start firing back up.
In the meantime a few kids really get the opportunity to learn what League Footy is all about.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

It's easy as a supporter of the winning team to say the umpires did a good job, but I honestly didn't think they did a bad job.

They must adjudicate on a set of rules open to interpretation and when you got 5000 people interpreting those rules it will always be different.

Maybe we should have SAFOOTY umpire appreciation week where users of this site can umpire a game.

Are you serious?

Were you even at the game? Geez I thought Central got more than their fair share... they had a run on at one point in the third quarter I think it was when they must have got 8 out of 10 or something. Certainly don't agree we had a free run from the men in white...

Especially with the fact that Gowans can say shit piss **** **** all he wants and never get a 25 against him yet we sneeze, that's a 25.

Just finished watching the game after avoiding the score while I was at work all day. Great game to watch and I won't be allowing work to get in the way of ANZAC footy again (if we get to play in it).
Surprised no-one has mentioned the impact of one Tim McIntyre, especially in setting up the lead in the first qtr. Reckon he had a hand in most of the 4 goals Chambo kicked and got one himself. He's a lad I've been hoping to see in the league for quite a while. Not afraid to stick his head over the ball and get involved in some of the rough stuff.
Also Bratton was important. Has good foot skills and is strong in and under. He was suffering with a hip and groin complaint through the finals last year so he didn't have the impact that he would have liked.
Hopefully the boys realise that only beating Centralssssss and Glenelg throughout the season won't get us in to the top three. We need to bring that sort of commitment to every game for the rest of the season now.
Btw, there is a whole thread of Centralsssss supporters somewhere on here that are complaining about Centrals being just Central. I'll bump it when I find it.
