to day i rang the abc about the 1961 gf between westies and norwood. even though the abc had the writes to this game, it appears they do not have it. back then most games from the sixties got chucked out.the best the abc can do for anybody wanting that game is four minutes of mute footage that would of been used for the news service at the time, shame realy.

Bummer. Have you tried Channel 7 and 9???

If that Phil Cleary segment on the ABC a few years back was done in Melbourne it wouldn't surprise me if there's some SANFL footage stored in Melbourne. Anyone shed any light on this???

Just bumping this old post of mine...

Finally rang up the ABC today and asked if the 2000 and 2001 Grand Finals are available on DVD...THEY ARE!!!

I asked about any other stuff and the woman said that there is other older SANFL stuff on DVD that is available. I will try and get a copy of the list of available DVDs when I pick up those 2 DVDs and i'll post them on here.

I think the other older stuff is just Grand Finals. I asked whether they kept or had available any of the SANFL match of the week stuff in their archives and I got a flat no.

This is a photocopy of the list they had at the front counter of the ABC...I don't for a second believe that this is everything they have nor is the list correct. It mentions "tapes" but you can get the 2000 and 2001 Grand Finals on DVD.

Number at the top is who you contact regarding enquiries.

The first SANFL Grand Final recorded by any of the TV stations was the 1964 Grand Final between South and Port. Prior to that game they only filmed a couple of minutes of the Grand Final for their new service etc.

In other words no TV Channel recorded the 1961 Grand Final.

For me the most disappointing fact of all is that even though Channel 7, 9 and 2 all televised the 1972 champions of Australia match for different markets, none of the three channels have a copy of the match. The best that can be found of that match is about 2 minutes of highlights.

There's a commercially produced VHS of the 1958 and 1959 Grand Finals, which I've got, which isn't great quality but is interesting historically. It's probably only a few minutes of each game, I can't recall exactly, and includes a speech by Fos Williams at a premiership dinner after one of the GFs.

I purchased the 2009 Second semi final. You can actually see Mark Mickan's heart break.
