I went to watch the game but found myself much more interested in counting the crowd numbers. I made it 4,814 but couldn't remember if I counted myself or not. So I counted everyone again and made it 4,312 at the 28 min mark of the last quarter, including the scoreboard attendant.

Actually, I did wonder myself what the nos were but it was hard to tell when you dont go there more than a couple of times a year. Plenty of people on the grandstand side, but perhaps more telling were the good numbers on the outer wing - would that be a fair observation?

As for Norwood, I thought Phillips, Stopp and Rowe were up there.

i thought zorzi was easily the best for you blokes - he was immense at all the stoppages which was the one area that you guys broke even with us.

the thing i found most intereting was norwoods use of the interchange bench - almost every time i loooked down to teh boundary line they were making 1 or 2 changes, also considering nitschke was a late inclusion i found it intereting that he spent so much time starting in the centre

We're a decent tall forward short. This fast moving style of play doesnt work when your skill level and decision making is poor, and our youngsters were not up to it today/tonight. I'm just hoping we get better as the season goes on.
Zorzi is always good. I was a bit surprised by who was in the centre. I guess the 2nd half became another trial

Have to mention that Doyle probably played his best game in a Norwood jumper. I reckon he took more marks today than the entire last 2 seasons!

3 marks for doyle - i must say whenever he plays against us i always think he plays quite well yet no fans at norwood seem to rate him at all - i think he generally either beats or at worst breaks even with cranston

Probably missed a pair that would have been certain goals though ... However I take your point, he did look better.

I would be disappointed as a Norwood supporter if the comments in today's fishwrapper from Bass are correct ... their (Glenelg's) contested possession was very good but I thought we matched them quite well ... and for most of the game I was happy with the ways the guys applied themselves

Those comments would have been very true for the corresponding game last year. Bass, that performance yesterday was not acceptable, and your supporters expect much stronger efforts from here. The 'legs showed that they're capable of that in the 2nd half last year ...

I expect a much tougher contest next time around.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I don't think there is a lot wrong with wht Bassett said. Norwood weren't too bad around the stoppages with their pressure especially with teh likes of Zorzi. They held their own, it was more when the had got the ball initially it was their next possession that let them down as they are obviously in transition with respect to game plans and that takes time. That coupled with our pressure saw Norwood cough up possession. Norwood around he ball not too bad, in open play though.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I actually thought we competed better yesterday than in recent floggings we've had from the Bays ... Sadly the scoreboard would tend to suggest otherwise.

There were some elementary mistakes made (ie dropped marks) which should be an obvious area of improvement, but there's no escaping the fact our skill level is miles behind a team as polished as the Bays, so we're behind the 8-ball even before we get to personnel deficiencies.

Norwood are going to need to find a foil for Sam Rowe in a hurry, because the opposition will target him and most likely succeed and it appears we have zero alternate avenue to goal at the moment.

As I have stated previously I clearly fear for the development of the 2 young kids bass picked on the bench. They are clearly not up to it at this stage both skill wise and physically. Please for their own sake put them back where they belong before you damage their physc. We are gonna get flogged many times this year but limit the damage to our future players. I see our 18's copped a beating as well. Wat happened to the so called group of gun under 16's last year that where supposed to be the next best thing. Sorry to be negative but the football club really needs to take a good hard look at where it is going and what it is doing before supporters leave in droves. all we want as suppoters is to be competative in all grades. With the zone we have we should be. Maybe it starts from the 13's upwards and some of what I have heard and seen from those guys defies ......... Let us all now pray for 2011

To be fair hb Glenelg U16s played in last year's Grand Final and still has a solid group of last years U18 premiership side eligible for u18s. It may not be a true indication of how your U18s team will go in 2010,
I cant give a credible assessment on the set up of your club, so will shut up now :)

Dry your eyes princess, four flags in your clubs squalid little existence and you still carry on like a North supporter.

Sadly for Norwood i reckon yesterday will be about the template for the year. We'll compete well, try hard but won't have the resources to win enough games to challenge for the five. We simply don't have enough players who make good decisions enough of the time. A few to come back will make a difference but we're a key forward and about three midfielders away from being consistently competitive.

Given how hard he competed and how well he played yesterday consensus amongst Norwood fans I spoke to was that an eight week ban would be suitable for Andy Lee.

Sam Rowe needs to work out he is in the side to kock goals as he tried to handpass twice yesturday which resulted in points or turnovers, both were from within 30 metres. Hopefully Bassett gives him the message get the ball within 40 go back and kick it otherwise Norwood supporters are going to pull there hair out very quickly.

I though our Backline was rock solid and were hungry for the contest and were determined to not let Norwood score. I thing our pressure all over the ground was outstanding. Yes we need to improve on ball movement as it was a bit sloppy when trying to run forward in numbers but not often do things click 100% in Round 1.

Our forward line looked good with a nice mix of bigs making contests and small crumbings at there feet.

I though we were good accross the whole team and Norwood poor with the only players to stand out that would have been ahead of any Glenelg players in the best being Phillips, Zorzi and Doyle was alright and actually kicked the ball a few times rather than just looking to handball.

Coaching staff..Bassett, Beinke, Borlace and co in shorts

Bit of a sign that you have given up

Where were the ceremonial robes to recognise the sacrifice of the young men that were being led into the slaughter?

Brother Bassett your team will continually die for your sins?

Roy Laird, his assistants and the entire CDFC playing group wore official club shirts and shorts, didn't seem to effect their performance...
