I am one eyed magpies and I said before (if you can read) that he will be at Port Districs by mid season.

I am very surprised that he did get the Captaincy, didn't he sign for Perth at some stage this off season.

What do the Port people expect from the side this year, personally i can't see them finishing any higher 7th but at times will get the use of some very handy afl players and may cause an upset or two and push a few of the better sides if their understrength starting with central saturday.

There have been alot better AFL players come back and play SANFL than Cloke.

I agree there have been better players, but Cloke will be very very handy for the Magpies. He is a big man and will intimidate and make space for team mates.

To be honest though if his very very handy for the pies it will probably only be for a few games because then he will be playing for the Power.

He wont make any impact if he ends up playing AFL every week.

Not sure I like the Meiklejohn appointment to be honest, but good on him and hopefully he can lead us to some finals footy this year

Was he perhaps given the captaincy as part of a package to help hang onto him?

Who knows. Maybe with a bunch of bigger names leaving there will be less egos and the youngsters will push themselves to play well every week. If we can make the finals then weve had a good year imo. Id agree it looks unlikely though.

The club went through a fair process to find the best option as captain, so i doubt it would have been a part of the package to keep him. If it was then they wasted a fair bit of time in announcing it.

If the Power do not place someone on the long term injurie list (which Primus said last night is very unlikely) then they can not up grade him until Round 11 so the magpies will at least have him until then.

Who would have you preferred Macca?

Would Summerton be a big enough on-field "presence"?

probs a year or two soon for summo IMO
he is only just 22, a year or 2 he will captain and be so for 5-10 years I reckon!

no one would be able to accurately say if he has a big enough on field presence!

If theyve picked Meiklejohn at the hope he'll stay for the rest of the career then its a decent choice to have a stable leadership team for a longer period of time.

Personally though I would have chosen DePas.

Digressing slightly here, but how do you think Lokan will go this year Macca?

Lots of people don't rate him. I think he's a good, experienced, harder player that we need.

Depends where he gets played mate. I think he needs to play across half forward and use his smarts as opposed to being lumbered with a player to watch, if he was in our back half.

I think our defense will struggle at times but you need to kick goals to win and I'd have him up front.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Depends on who we have playing at the time as well. If Cloke is up there, Butcher is up there, Erskine playing well and Mercer running around there may not be room for Lokan. He may have to play back.
One thing about Lokan is that he shows good leadership at the breaks and knows what he is talking about. At times he has made bad decisions on the field but at the breaks he is very good.
