NT Thunder I'm assuming.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Why bother travelling up there then for a TRIAL if you don`t care if you win or not? Might as well play some amateur club here if you not fussed about promoting the SANFL brand to interstate clubs.
As I said before Sturt should and will beat them comfortably as North have against various other interstate clubs in TRIALS over the last few years.
P.S If I was in your shoes I would be planning on winning as many TRIALS as possible with your Diminishing list LOL.

This will be an interesting game. After the SANFL rejected the Thunder and used the standard as one of the reasons you would expect Sturt to win easily.

However a few years back North only won a game against a composite side in the dying minutes (North were a top 3 side that you IIRC) and this side has now played together for a full season in the QAFL. They won most of their home games but struggled away (still learning how to travel and win). As this game is in Darwin I would it to be closer than a few are predicting.
We used to be good :-(

Nah u are right Wedgie, you must have been singing with that lady. North had it in the bag.

NTFL were 18 points down at the 20 minute mark of the last quarter, and North went on to win by 23 points.

Edit - yeah it was 23 points, not 27 points

See 5 goal win against a team that is arguably better than the NT Thunder side.

Not all the best NTFL players have put their hand up for Thunder as they still want to play with their local NTFL clubs. They have brought in a games restriction rule that Thunder list players can only play 10 games for their NTFL team in the off season. So several of Thunder's better players have pulled the pin for the 2010 QAFL season. They'll still be a good team but nowhere near SANFL strength.

And yes I am allowing for Sturt's rustiness for their first trial and to experiment.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I actually though North won by 23 points but once they got in front by 3 goals early in the 2nd half in a low scoring game they were in comfort mode. Still have the DVD somewhere, must have a look and see if I was too drunk to remember it being a tight game near the end of the last quarter. I think I remember us having a lit of good players out mucking around with Hargs at Centre Half Back too.

My memory of the game between NT and North (I hadn't been drinking) was that North were a couple of goals up at 3/4 time and the NT side made a surge at the start of the last quarter.

They looked to be coming home with a wet sail but a few silly turnovers lead to North goals which should have been NT scoring opportunities.

In the end I thought that the NT side had a lot of raw talent but North's composure under pressure and their team disipline was the difference on the day.

You've got ne curious, i'll have a look at the DVD and get back to you. 8)
I thought North had a fairly comfortable 2 to 4 goal lead for most of the 2nd half but with my poor memory I shouldn't comment on anything historical, North may have just won it with a flurry of goals in the last couple of minutes, if they did I blame the beer and the warm weather! ;)

Well half correct except we came home with the wet sail. In the end our fitness, size and strength coupled with the fact we got used to the humid conditions and slippery ball and nulified the NT's pace saw us win the game comfortably (which we always looked likely to do).

As for raw talent - the NT had a lot of experienced players: Darryl White, Ben AhMat (Darwin), Iggy Vallejo, Heath Culpitt, Scott Chisholm, Jarred & Cameron Ilett, Shannon Rusca, Ashley Wedding (Sthn Districts) and Peter Shepherd (Palmerston) just to mention a few familiar to SA footy fans.

Also the NT were in the last third of their season and match fit to the conditions v. North who were in pre-season mode. We also played a number of new players to the club in that match: Howard, Schubert, O'Hara, Weatherly, Walker, Alleway to name the big names plus Hargy having his first run ever in defence, so it did take some time in the match for us to gel.

Hate to dampen your obvious point re your posts that we were lucky to win as you make out that the NT lost it?
