That the clubs cant survive without other means.

The salary caps and expenses being racked up by clubs are artificial and not self sustaining.

It is a sad day for comp, unfortunately though if the comp refuses to live within its means, (by that I mean within the revenue streams that the comp directly generates), then its always going to be a risk. If its true that the majority of clubs reported losses this year, then theres an indication of a much bigger issue bubbling away.

I hope my club finds a way to survive, but if my club bites the dust this year the comp will mean nothing too me.

Agreed. Very sad day for SA Footy.

If 2010 is the end for the PAMFC, the SANFL from 2011 is a meaningless shambles.

For you and other PAMFC supporters perhaps but not for the other 8 clubs.

Exactly. The way they go on you'd think we got 10,000 more fans than usual at each home game we play against them.

Fully understand that the 3-4000 odd Port fans who go won't be seen at the SANFL any more, but if you think that Centrals and Sturt fans will stop then the arrogance is even worse than I thought.

Do you think we are all stupid??? - Most of us (including some of your own Port supporters) have known that for years so what is your point?

i think the sanfl has alot to answer for dating back to 1996. There should never of been the maggies left in the sanfl. Port Adelaide Football Club joined a new league to play in the AFL, which was the clubs dream for years. It should of been left at that, Port enters the AFL takes all the history (as it did but with the maggies hangn around you would of thought they had the history). Sanfl 8 teams and a way we go.

Good on them indeed.

And at the end of the day, good luck to them finding a new major sponsor.

If it's true then it's pretty childish and immature from House Brothers, much like your post.

Perhaps House Bros saw the value of their sponsorship investment diminishing without Port in the comp.

Port are still in the comp though so that argument makes no sense.

I am a die hard Norwood supporter and I hate the Magpies with a passion but ......

All you supporters of the other 8 teams ask yourself a question.
Look back on your greatest memories, your greatest moments in football.
Which ones DID'NT involve Port Magpies ? Not many I bet.
We all love to beat Port and personally nothing beats the feeling of knocking off Port in a GF or at Alberton or winning a typical tough fight under lights at the Parade.
Do you really want to lose that ?

If Port go who is next ?
Make no mistake if they go others will follow. Stop the rot here and now before the SANFL is gone.
We have to fight tooth and nail too keep these bastards in the comp.
I do not know enough details on the merger to comment but there has to be a way to keep Port viable and think the other 8 clubs should help in any way possible.

My opinioon is that the salary cap has to be reigned in and football department spending capped.

Let state quite clearly that I don't want the Magpies to disappear and I feel for their loyal SANFL supporters.

But...

1. Why should they not have to stand on their own two feet like other clubs have had to?

2. The sky will not fall in if there is no Port Magpies in the SANFL. There is certainly enough hatred of Central District for them to take the Port's place as the most despised team...

Great post.

If the boot was on the other foot and it was Norwood about to go under, I'd be gutted. I've always hated Norwood, but that's because of the great constests over the years.

The SANFL with Port will surely feel a little empty, regardelss of who you follow.

Agreed, but one could argue you kick started our dynasty with the pantsing we dished out to the Magpies in the 2000 QF. Thanks for that.

What a load of Flop. The only way the clubs are surviving is by other means.
Look at North and Sturt - Got there gaming venues runnings.

Other means is the only way. If your relying on the 700 people who may in the future go to a SANFL match, then your ******!

One could argue your dynasty in the post AFL-era counts for less as the strength of the comp is compromised.

Not that crap again. If you follow SANFL, it means just as much. The comp dropped quality across the board which means it's still competitive so it's just as big a thrill to win a flag as always.

i have read a few posts now saying that the SANFL will be gone if the magpies are gone. i havent seen a reason why though.id be interested why u think so. all i see is the SANFL growing stronger with the eagles recording record member numbers,(i stand corrected on that but i think i read that somewhere), north making a profit of 1/2 a mill, westies turning around a massive loss, norwood and sturt being proactive in digging themselves out of a hole.all on the back of (central supporters wont agree)a pretty boring 1 team dominated decade. add a better structured and fair draw playing all 7 teams 3 times a year every year, and no bye. dont get me wrong i dont want port to go but i cant see the comp dying if they do .

Fair call goraw - One thing I have learnt out of this Merger mess is that all the 8 other SANFL clubs have (if they didn't already) much closer ties and bonds and I think the stronger bi-partisan common goal approach by the clubs going forward can only help the comp.
