Westies Grandstand on fire

All discussions to do with the SANFL

According to people within the club it has been assessed and declared an electrical fault.
This is from Red and Black from Bloodntars forum.
"I was down there this morning. The Club is well insured financially to cover any losses, but the rooms will be unusable for some time until the smoke damage is fixed and new equipment and fittings installed."

Hopefully they get access to the Crows gym so their pre-season isn't too disrupted.

IMO This is when the SANFL help is really warranted - for something totally unforeseeable and totally out the the clubs control.

Definitely. Facilities, gyms, ovals, can be borrowed or hired, and while not ideal, can be overcome. Biggest drama for Westies will be all the notes, videos, knowledge, tactics, game plans, etc coming into the new footy season.

Just wondering what the reaction would be if a stand at Alberton burnt down?

Anyway, as stated earlier, I'm sure the SANFL and it's community will assist West with whatever they require to get them through this period ... any less would be very disappointing.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

If it was an electrical fault how can it be "set on fire"? Makes it sound like arson.

At least they're insured, takes the edge off a bit but still a pain in the arse for all those affected until everything is rebuilt.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

i dont think woodville oval can be used at the moment as cricket is being played there. I hope it gets all fixed up before the Sturt 16's are due to play there which is on a Tuesday night. the power allows any SANFL side to use there gym when they want. i dont know if the crows offer the same.

Like voice i will venture to the friday night game and get the fix of my local footy.

from what i understand training will be as normal at RICHMOND OVAL as the visitors room, the umpires rooms our change rooms and the property room have only smoke damage its mainly the gym andy's office and the medical room that are badley damaged...... apparently the crows have offered use of their gym facilities at westlakes until we can get it all sorted out

Didn't the club spent a cpouple of $100 000 doing the grandstand up 2 years ago making it more OH&S compliant including electrical work???

Hopefully for Westies sake they have insurance.

jeez I bet the electrical contractor for that job could be a little worried right now..........

My sympathies to everyone at the Westies, it's a terrible thing to happen to any club but the main thing is that nobody was injured or worse.

Hopefully it won't take too long to get work started on replacing what was lost and I'm sure the club will have no trouble working around the situation cos that's what people do.

I wish them luck and hope all the clubs will offer support/facilities if needed.

Regards

Will Westies re-visit the flood in 2010 to prevent it from happening again......

:D ;)

Apologies in advance to Westies folk if considered too soon, I mean no offence but couldn't resist given the debates R&B and I have had on here.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The rest of the rooms are damaged aswell by the smoke, but the grandstand structure is still in tact.

No word yet if this was an accident or not!!!

Devastating news for the bloods after the gym was only upgraded last season and with the timing off this, it could really put the bloods behind the 8 ball!!!

lets hope the SANFL community gets behind them no club deserves that

No offence taken, AB, but you should have resisted for a bit longer.

Yes, the Crows have been training regularly at City Maxda Stadium for a while now and have been very happy with the arrangement, I believe.
