For the record, I've added in 2004, with the exception of the Anzac Day match and a Round 21 match.

So far, 68 rushed behinds have been tallied this year. That's an average of 1.42 per side per game.

HAHAHA! Still can't get over that day, one of the best days of my aussie rules life. Geelong outplayed, outclassed. Simple as that. A Wonderful game I was lucky enough to attend, sitting amongst a group of Cats supporters :D . All the whingers had to go get the rules changed in the AwFuL. And ever since the Hawks have been crap!

And now we have a silly rule in the SANFL. :?

They changed the backpass rule in soccer a few years back to help cut out the time wasting. It semed to work to some extent.

Having a discussion the other day about rushed behinds in the SANFL.

Has the SANFL implemented the delibrate rushed behind rule same as AFL this year? I thought I read somewhere on here it has.

Yes, it has and there already has been a couple of incidents where free kicks have been paid.

One was against Ian Callinan playing for Central against West in Round 3 at Elizabeth, I can't quite remember the other one though, think it was at Richomd between West and Norwood maybe ?

Agree the penalty for a breach of the rule is too harsh, should be a ball up at the top of the goal square IMO, as opposed to a free kick paid on the goal line, too harsh.

To give an even better representation of the trend of rushed behinds, lets have a squiz at the percentage of rushed behinds to the total behinds scored in any year:

Code: Select all
Year Rushed Total %
1991   471   2575   18.29
1992   503   2708   18.57
1993   442   2541   17.39
1994   495   2728   18.15
1995   414   2489   16.63
1996   309   2011   15.37
1997   293   1993   14.70
1998   363   1978   18.35
1999   343   1954   17.55
2000   371   2203   16.84
2001   323   2027   15.93
2002   377   2050   18.39
2003   362   2042   17.73
2004   343   1993   17.21
2005   355   2167   16.38
2006   371   2297   16.15
2007   341   2118   16.10
2008   393   2074   18.95
2009   323   2015   16.03
2010   242   1543   15.68

After 1994, only three years stand out. 2008 was the highest % out of any year from 1991, but last year it fell to the lowest % since 2001. So was there a need to bring in the rushed behind rule this year?

Maybe some of the North supporters at Prospect when South played there a couple of weeks ago might just like to take note of this rule change, they were a real bunch of yobbos, giving the club a bad name with their carry ons.

Wow mate, they must have been bad for you to feel the need to bring it up 2 weeks after the game by quoting a 3 month old post in a 7 month old topic discussing rushed behinds! :?

Wedgie, they were even that bad, they called the Umpire a Gyppo out for every one to hear, and we all know he is of Greek origin. And that was on the day the SANFL has their multi cultural day.

So climb back under your rock.
