The simple answer is NO. In fact, I would consider the assertion that Sturt are 'trying to buy a flag' is rather an insult to the many people at the club that have worked extremely hard over the last couple of years to create a winning culture based on rewarding and promoting players from within. Just look at the success of the reserves and junior sides in recent seasons

Hence the point and you are in essence rolling your eyes at the original poster's stupid poll.
Every club recruits and every club plays juniors, admittedly to different degrees.
If Sturt are trying to buy a flag then so are Glenelg as are 7 other clubs.
The simple fact if the matter is it's every clubs priority to win a flag and they'll do what they can to ensure that.
Dumb topic, might as well as have one for every club but I'm sure as per usual bayman wouldn't start one about Glenelg.
Shame on Sturt for couragously upsetting the Bays in the Prelim and recruiting well!

Sturt are only covering their outs with similar types ; they are only being diligent as every club should strive to be . Some idiots that have " TRIED " to run clubs in the past without doing so , wonder why they slip back by not doing as Sturt are now ! The salary cap is there to be used , all of it ( and more by we all know who ) . ;)

Flags can't be bought. The examples at SANFL level and AFL are few and far between - and plenty of clubs have sent themselves broke trying!

And don't bother suggesting that the doggies have been buying flags as there is absolutely no evidence of that. Their success has occurred due to the development of a long term plan and sticking to it for a long time.

It's probably also worth noting that Sturt lost a lot of first-choice players at the end of last year and didn't really replace them.

That's right, with 2 players in and 6 out from last season, and many un-replaced senior retirements from the season before that, we've been more than happy to promote juniors.
All of a sudden we sign 2 players from other clubs and we get "polls" like this  .

Spot on d4e. The Dogs have been very smart with who they recruit and we are trying to do the same. The main ingredient I would say that has brought (not bought ;) ) the dogs their flags is the culture they have instilled into all their players.

At the start of this year Sturt lost about 4-5 senior players and got written off as a finals side. They didnt go out and recruit heavily and relied on the reserves players from 2008 who played in a winning gf to do the job. Luke backed them, some did well and some others didnt but the result was that they made the GF which was above what i expected them to do. Sturt have some money in the kit so they are venturing out to purchase players to fill the spot that they need to fill. Luke will still promote the players that come through the system.

Exactly. Club officials wouldn't be doing their job if they weren't recruiting the best available talent with the funds they have.

Except for Glenelg of course, they'd trip over and it would fall out of their hands on the way to the check out ;)

Nup, they'd buy one then someone would pinch it from them in the car park just as they were about to take it home. ;)

As the thief's footsteps are heard behind them, their windpipes would close up and as they're gasping for air, the thief will just pick it up after they've dropped it ;)

firstly i take offence that you call a poll/question stupid & a dumb topic, every teacher in the world will tell you NO question is stupid, but to infact say it is stupid is calling me stupid & this is what i take offence at, i don't care what yours or anyone elses opininions are because we all have them & mine is no better or worse than anyone elses including yours

had & if glenelg get 2 recruits that costs "alledgedly'' $50,000.00 in just transfer fees i'd ask the same question

& could you please tell me what the word 'couragously' you've posted means unless you mean COURAGEOUSLY

as for sturt winning the preliminary final good luck to them they were the better team on the day & deserved their win

ps, for a dumd/stupid--poll/topic it has created talk & & banter from most, however you are supposed to be a leader, your this sites creator & a stakeholder in it & you ask for respect (as you should) yet you very rarely show any respect back

lots of love bayman xxxx

Bayman,
You have summed it up perfectly

Barto & others stop being so precious.

Players such as Hinge, Hassan & Giles don't come cheap. The transfer fees for these three players would be hefty we all know that
