It was a point the original poster made in his second post in this thread.
He was relating it to being related to problem gamblers which in turn he thinks provide the most pokies income to the SANFL clubs which in essence is the main thrust of his topic.

Ok then. For mine, whether you go in at 8am for a breakfast flutter or sit from midnight to dawn in the pokie room makes no odds.

I realise his point that clubs are profiting at the expense of these people, but its their money, they can do with it as they wish. If the suggestion that it is in someway immoral, then good luck convincing any powers that be to change it.

I agree, without pokies most clubs would struggle.

But I would agree that the modern football club would truly struggle to maintain there current status without the revenue from pokie machines. Case in point, my Magpies.

The Prince of Wales is not very busy at any point of the day and it has been a poor investment by the Magpies. We are one of the clubs without a pokie venue of our own ( thats successful ) and look at our predicament.

the POW has not been all that bad for the club!!! the pub makes profits every year... however it is recorded on paper as a loss becoz the club takes surplus for football commitments! however it would be a lot better if we owned the premises rather than paid half a mil in leasing it annually!

and i bet these quiet days you talk about actually make a lot more for the club than busy days
lower crowds= lower turnover = lower payouts = more money in the clubs pocket!!!

I say a bad investment in relation to other much busier venues in the area. Sure, we do make some money and yes, the lease does kill us. I wonder how much effort was spent on speaking to the Briens re : The Alberton Hotel?

In the corporate world they call this risk management Dutchy. It doesnt make any sense to be so reliant on something that has the potential to become a political football (pardon the pun)

Lets say hypothetically the government comes out and halves poker machine numbers from every venue in the state. How many clubs could cop this...not many.

This part I agree with.

I might frame this Hondo, lol

On topic - Dutchy and you are spot on regarding risk management by the clubs because if NSW are putting in restrictions there's a good chance SA will too at some stage
