Both clubs are becoming sucesfull on and off the field.
The old footscray helped the dogs get started and niether side would have to change their name, they could just be called the bulldogs.

Just a thought.

When did the Western Bulldogs last win a flag or even be in the GF? Well before my time.

Where did i say anything about premiership?
And i think i said becoming successful which is how i see the western buldogs in the next few years.
The way the western bulldogs are going they ARE on the verge of aleast making a GF and financially they are improving every year.
Maybe with the lack of GFs or premierships you might be correct but they are continuing to improve on and off the fied, so maybe successful for the western bulldogs is a bit high but improving might be a better word to explain them.

yeah because Central really aspire to be like Norwood is right now.

Norwood = basket case, fancy cheating and still not even making the top 3, what a joke.

Norwood = 27 premierships
Central = 8 premierships

Got a long way to go before you're more successful than Norwood

I agree with your last line. Not in our lifetimes at least. The AFL have sign-posted a 3rd WA team and a team in Tasmania as the 19th and 20th AFL teams. But that would have to be 10 years away at best.

If there was to be a 3rd team out of SA then I agree that the CDFC would be a prime candidate. However, I don't think the AFL would let the SANFL get away with having their cake and eating it too a second time. ie, it would be CDFC OUT of SANFL, IN to AFL. How would you feel about that out of curiosity? It would test the SANFL v AFL allegiances of a lot of CDFC people?

That's unless there's a relocation of a Melbourne based team and a merger as was suggested by dogs01. Then you could probably keep a CDFC in the SANFL.

It's all hypothetical though.

I can forsee the debate now!

The Central District Hurricanes are NOT the CD Bulldogs / they stole our heritage / look at the corporate registration numbers - the Hurricanes are the NEW team / what's all this est 1964 rubbish / etc / etc

Ha ha ;)

Sorry Norwood in premiership every 4.8 years and Centrals every 5.8 years

Mind you if you want to go on GF wins you are in front Norwood have only won a GF every 6.5 years since we started having them in 1898

And before you reply yes I know Glenelg's record a GF win/Premiership every 22.3 years
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

What about since both teams have been playing in the same comp. i.e since 1964.
Then it would be 5 Norwood Central 8 (we won't mention Glenelg)

Beat me to it.

As everyone else tells us that post-1990 flags don't mean as much, we simply don't rate any pre-1964 ones either.

Yeah, I'd prefer it if you didn't....

I've tried to use that argument when arguing we were better than West/Torrens/South in an old thread given that for the time that we'd be in the competition (1921) we had won at least as many flags and played in more GFs than them but got howled down as you can't discount previous "premierships".

Then I thought even trying to compare yourself to South is an admission of failure so it really is best to shut up... :D :D

Me and my mate had that exact discussion the other day, it started of what would you have done if you were a port magpie supporter when the power came in, it quickly turned to what if Central had an AFL side, they were called the Central 'Hurricanes' wore blue, red and orange, Laird was the coach and the core group of players including the Gowans were in this AFL side.

After an hour or so of discussion we both still had no idea as to whether we would still support the Dogs, jump on the 'hurricanes' or try and support both knowing the Dogs would more than likely struggle for years from the impact of all these players moving to the AFL, it's a couple days on and i still have no idea what i would do.

Have a think about it if it was your club i would be interested to heat what other supporters would do.

Not only is three too many, but I think that two is.

In national competitions SA always struggles to support a second side.

In Soccer, Basketball and Netball we once had two sides, but only one survived.

I think one of the sides should relocate to Devonport. Then they could keep part of their name.

Agreed! At least they would give some of the vic based sides a run for their money in terms of atmosphere at home matches!

This year I had my first trip to the MCG and Docklands to watch AFL footy, When Essendon ran out on the Docklands they played the air raid warning siren, - certainly made the hair on the back of your neck stand up!

Central Districts v Collingwood at Elizabeth Oval 8-[ :-s

Salivating thought.............but I'd watch the replay

The Pie fans could fly into Parafield so the rest of Adelaide wouldn't even know what was going on out there (other than the glow in the evening)

Western Bulldogs are doing pretty well financially these days as well. They'd have no need to merge or relocate.
