Not sure how a merger would work, are Westies struggling too? that's the only way it could work imo but would they be called the west adelaide magppies or some totally new identity? you couldn't have the eagles merge with them, what would it be then the woodville-west torrens-port adelaide eagles

And in the unsightly combination of colours gold, green, blue, black and white. ;)

How's the guernsey going to look like? Gold eagle with a prison bar consisting of black, white, green and blue stripes?

Another option could be the Port Magpies moving to Tea Tree Gully and being the representative side of the North Eastern Suburbs in the SANFL. With their existing supporter base and then being able to tap into the North Eastern Suburbs local sides they could well turn things around as a result and keep their name, colours and history.

I think Central and Norwood might be a tad miffed with that suggestion I'm afraid.

Wouldn't be the first time Central have lost territory to Port.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

some stupid comments in this thread...

A bit left field, but if the PAMFC aren't financial (for the SANFL), how's about PAMFC dropping into Div 1 SAAFL?
Surely this option would be preferred over shutting the doors completely?
Running costs less etc..., maybe with the chance of rejoining the SANFL should they get their house in order?

Option C for me. The sooner the better. Would probably help the FlowerPower too as the magpies few remaining fans will probably drift to them.

I reckon North would be having a bit more of a say than Centrals.

I think North's zone extends as far north as Target Hill Road, east of a line from Bridge Road and includes Wynn Vale, Gulfview Heights and Golden Grove (proper). Happy to be corrected of course.

Pretty sure zoning came in around 1900.

ROTFLMAO

They going to dredge the Torrens up to Modbury and build an all weather harbour so the name Port Adelaide remains valid???
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Pretty much. If you've got Google Earth, you can download the zones at:

Metro: http://www.sanfl.com.au/maps/SANFL_club ... _metro.kml
Country: http://www.sanfl.com.au/maps/SANFL_club ... ountry.kml

1899 was the first year of compulsory zones.

Nup you're right StrayDog when you check out the metro zones on sanfl.com.au it is surprising how far North Norwoods zone extends virtually all the way to Gawler. Norwood and North "share" Golden Grove virtually. It is surprising how little of metro area east of main North road is actually Centrals zone.

My suggestion (which no-one will like) is that the Magpie merge with the NT Thunder giving the NT access into the SANFL and Port a lifeline.
We used to be good :-(

Could they not join Frankston in the VFL who are also on the brink of folding, its not just happening here in Adelaide but also in Victoria.

I'm surprised how close (a stones throw literally) I used to live (at Blakeview) to Norwoods zone.

If you're one of the remaining Magpies supporters who hates the Power and follows someone else in the AFL, then it's pretty unlikely I would have thought.

That's a fantastic add on. What's the unmarked island between Sturt's and West's zone?

Also, I am pleased that we have the Montacute Quarry.
