The other major difference I noticed this week compared to last, is that there was barely a 1/4 of the pressure this week than there was against Centrals last week. Playing the Eagles was a much more open, dare I say, easy game in comparison.

That's not me saying Eagles were easy, I'm saying the game just didn't have that pressure to it. It had it in fits and starts here and there, but compared to last week, it was a walk in the park.

Stuff we did this week, was getting nailed last week.

As a result, I thought the Eagles suffered under the pressure we applied on them in the first half. So hard for them to get goals, so much easier for us, but as the game wore on, we became gradually worse and in turn Eagles got better.

Again, just glad we got the win. First win over Eagles in a final, first win over Eagles at AAMI.

Tardy notes to the grounds people who did the music too... the Sturt cheerleaders had their music cut short to play the Eagles song and gorgeous Gemma and Sarah were not happy lasses! :-)

mickyj........believe me there were many changes during the game made by Ron......

the Eagles won the second half....the move of McGregor forward made a difference.....players were kicking to the top of the square.....

it was bad kicking for goal that cost the Eagles today in the third.....scoreboard pressure is a must in finals......

we were again exposed by pace and Sturt breaking our takles in the first half.....

the to the players credit they rallied and gave it everything they had for the second half......

Rimmington and Grocke were clearly our best......

sadly lack of a good pre season, missed games and age caught up with a few today!

hopefully the seconds can take the Grand Final ia a couple of weeks time.....they blew Sturt of the ground in yesterdays game!

Very disappointing first half. Good 2nd half but it was just a tease. Sturt ran us off our legs in the first half. Thought we lacked one key defender and one key forward. Not that we didn't have them available, but they weren't selected in the original side. I thought the intensity of this game was down on the other 3 finals this year so far.

The season was always about what ifs for the Eagles but in the end the best team won. Even without Chambers they had too many strong targets up forward. In the first half they had all the answers down back and in general play they always had numbers at the ball.

Thought Rimington was our best. Grocke played a good solid game. Broadbent was good when moved away from Herring.

Well played Sturt, while a bit of a scare in the end deserved the win.

See you next week. ;)

Either way... for the good of the SANFL... no, for the good of the world... one of us MUST win it.

Poor Selections matchups and coaching cost the eagles today - they tried but when you carry 4 or 5 of players that aren't up to A grade standard you can't expect to win a final. Hopefully Godden was watching the game today and can send them packing to Henley #10 in particular.

Thought the Eagles were good today and IMHO if it hadn't been for our backline it may have been close to even stevens at quarter time.
A lot of our 15-30 metre passes were missing the target and we'll certainly have to not so much play better but make better decisions with the ball if we are to win next week against the Bays.
No.2 in the draft continued his solid form for the Double Blues and hopefully he continues on with that in the next 1 or 2 games before we lose him for the next 15 years.

After 12 losses and no wins in games decided below 18 points in the last 31 years of finals it had to happen
And of course me being a smartanus, I had to bring it up after 3 decades and ST win by 10 points today

Eagles the better team? How did Sturt end up winning?
Listening to the call on the radio I thought Sturt had the better of it through the course of the day, but I 'd be interested to hear from people who actually saw the match. Especially in light of what Micky has written on here.
Typo perhaps?

Eagles first half and lack of coaching moves was awful .
BUT that is where the Eagles deserved to be at the end of the year fourth. Not bad in a rebuilding year.
Fuller era over bring on the new Era next year :D

What you talkin'bout Willis?

Geez if I said that last week about Sturt, I would have been lynched.

Eagles were smashed in the first half.

Eagles battled and were better than us in the third.

Eagles were better than us in the last 10 mins, but not earlier, in the last.

Overall, half a footy match by us got us the win. It was a good win from the perspective that we needed to salvage something after last weeks demoralising loss, but overall it wasn't a great game from Sturt.

Yep it was a typo
I think I wrote a line and changed it and left the Eagles in there by error.

Nathan Daniel is a young kid on the improve - deserved his spot in todays side based on his recent performances. He will only improve further with more experience at league level.

Maybe the next coach will work it out
There is an EG player who played 100+ games in the AFL as a key forward
But for some strange inexplicable reason too often he only gets a gig up forward when his team is several goals down
f..''KEN'' hell ...

Having said all that coach Ronnie Fuller has done a great job with WWT in his coaching tenure
Unfortunately his team was up against a freakish finals team in CD in the last decade
He has won a flag and has ensured the WWT club was a very good competitive outfit
I think he should have a couple of years off
Refresh himself
And come back in a 2nd stint as a coach again
