Eagles have made the right appointment, well done in securing Mick Godden albeit he was probably by far the most outstanding candidate.
Fair to say the pool of prospective coaches is pretty shallow at the moment but this bloke should be fantastic and his held in very high regard in circles past and present. Ferret you are correct, announcing the coach now is the correct thing to do as all parties have declared their hand.

Full time position for 3 years. am, Booga might go with him but you might just be able to keep him at the Bay....

Well done, Goddsy.

A great bloke and will do a terrific job.

All the best.

PS: That now makes 3 of the 9 clubs coached by a former Westies player.

Well done Jackal. I clearly remember you posting at the time of Fuller's decision not to continue that Mick Godden was clearly the leading candidate for the Eagles job, this was well before wycbloods got in on the act.

I'm going to put $100 on at 20 to 1 that he is going to stay after the reserves final to watch a real team play in the other reserves final on Saturday.

Jackal wrote:I am sure Ron is ready for a break from footy so don't expect to see him at an opposition club.
I think all parties are ready for a change so hopefully the Eagles can secure an outstanding person for the job.
Ron was on a pretty lean salary so a high profile replacement will stretch the budget further.
The next best rookie coach in waiting is Mick Godden, he is a key figure in Glenelgs's current resurgence albeit
he has just accepted a coaching job in the NT I believe.
Rogers does not have the desire to be a league coach and as hard as Jeffries tries he will be out of his depth as
the key figure of the club.
Interesting times ahead and good timing by Ron in making the decision.

That is what Jackal said, he is the best rookie coach.

I said he has the job two very different statements Ferret.

I just jumped on board jackal's bandwagon ay   .

It seems Westies are good at producing AFL footballers and SANFL coaches. I wish it was the other way around.

Save yourself a lettuce leaf ME, he saw them 2 weeks ago get a 15 goal touch up by his side...

I think Godsy is more than aware of what Eagles reserves team can do based on his last two games agaisnt them....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Nickname I think your correct. Mickan Norman and now Godden.
Was chatting at work and some people dismissed him because he's only a seconds coach.
When I let that settle in I said Laird was a seconds coach Fuller had no league coaching experiance.Macgowan was a seconds coach .And Norman at oval ave was Macgowans(and Rons) assistant in the two's and then Sturts Seconds coach.

Successful Seconds coaches seem to do well coaching sides in the league well Roy has anyway ;)

If the Bays didn't have absolute trust in Godds to coach out the rest of the season then he would be with you now ... patience my friend.

GLENELG Reserves coach Michael Godden has been named as Ron Fuller’s replacement at the Eagles.

The former Adelaide Crows and West Adelaide player has signed a three-year deal, which will begin at the completion of the current SANFL season.

Interestingly, Godden could coach against the Eagles in the Reserves finals, if his Glenelg side can win through to the preliminary or grand final.

Eagles CEO Chris Davies said the possibility of Godden coaching against his new club did not present a conflict of interest.

``Certainly not from my perspective,’’ Davies said.

``Anyone that thinks there might be obviously isn’t taking in to consideration the professionalism of Michael Godden and the two football clubs involved.’’

Davies said the Eagles decided to announce Godden’s appointment this week to prevent any further speculation about the position.

Godden played 89 League matches for West Adelaide between 1993 and 2002 before being forced to retire because of a knee injury. He spent time in assistant coaching positions at West Adelaide and Glenelg, as well as serving as the South Australian under-20 coach in 2008 and as an assistant of the senior state side this year.

``I am delighted to be given the opportunity to take over as senior coach at such a wonderful club at the conclusion of the 2009 season,’’ Godden said.

``I will be aiming to build on the high standards the club has set for itself under Ron Fuller, while putting my own stamp on the way the Eagles will go about their work.’’

Don't know an awful lot about Godden so only time will tell - can anyone tell me about his coaching credentials, what he's done in previous positions etc.
