As for the league we seamed to play in patches. Umpiring was very poor to both sides.

I believe that should we face Sturt in the finals we might find it a struggle to win going on the two games we played against them this year.

Firstly mate the name of our club is Woodville West Torrens (don't forget it again). I think when we're at our best we can beat anyone - as is shown earlier in the season (we have beaten 2 out of the top 3 sides this season). I definately believe we will survive to play semi's - beyond that who knows. We were beaten today by 26 points and Glenelg were gifted 6 goals at least from frees in front of goals. I don't think we're that far off.

Any chance Dabrowski will get weeks? I'd very much doubt it. Was a stupid thing to do by him as we had the free kick and he gifted a goal to Glenelg by knocking over Backwell, but doubt it was enough to warrant suspension. If Dabrowski was to get a match, that would be a huge blow to the Eagles elimination final chances.

On the other thread csbowes wrote

Sturt has thrown away seasons like that before, Glenelg threw away their flag last year. I stick to my assessment from weeks and weeks ago, I reckon Glenelg, Central and Sturt are the likely Grand Finalists. No disrespect meant to Torrens or North Adelaide, but you'd have to expect that whoever moves on from the Elimination Final will likely be knocked out easily a la Norwood'08. That said, I have no urge to fall into that game, as I'd rather not play Torrens in a final.

How about a bit of consistency csbowes. I don't know about a lot of Central supporters. Personally I think the Eagles could quite easily knock of the dogs (as they have done this year). Not quite sure what you think, you seem to change on different threads. Everyones a chance to "knocked out easily".
I would have thought obviously any team is a chance. Throw in the variables injuries, afl players, and umpires and on any given day as we've seen any team can be beaten by any team.

Pretty much, and I felt the final score flattered the Eagles (they kicked the last 3 from memory) as the Bays were dominant for most of the match ... sorry, not buying in an umpiring debate, the Eagles were never going to win today's match.

The Bays obviously had to win to keep top spot and the Eagles didn't have much to play for other than a good hit out before the bye and the Elimination Final, so not sure that it counts for much.

But very pleased with a win against quality opposition nevertheless. The Eagles will not be easy to beat in the finals.

Now for one final hitout to hopefully get the points against West to earn the first week off in the finals.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I will get shot down in flames for this but I'll say it anyway, there are going to be some big problems for the umpriring department when Williams and Pfieffer retire as there is a massive gap between the quality of those they are going to lose and those that will replace them. Richard was the only one today who was in control and only blew the whistle when he needed to, think this is a major issue facing the league going forward.

As for the game, the first quarter by the bays was outstanding, probably should have been further in front. Like CCL still think there was a bit to like about the Eagles after 1/4 time as they outscored Glenelg over the remaining quarters and seemed to look better in the rain..especially Cicca, but were just a bit inefficient especially in the later part of the 2nd qtr, when the Bays had limited forward entries but scored with nearly all of them.

Onwards and upwards for the finals, could be some big decisions around the selection table for the Elimination.
Trust the process.

GL controlled this game after a fast start and never looked like losing
But geeeeeez GL got a ride with the umpires
Just seemed that almost every 50/50 decision went in favour of GL today

In general play both sides played well

De Boy was a De Scrace today. Had no feel for the game and seemed to panic when under pressure. I bet he hasn't played too many games himself apart from primary school ( maybe he should be umpiring that!).
Glenelg were never going to lose after the start they got. The best side we've played this year. I don't really rate Sturt as they remind me of Graham Hick (former English cricketer)- a flat track bully - crunch weaker oposition but found out at the next level which is Central and Glenelg. Unfortunatly, at the moment, the Eagles fall into the weaker opposition category and desperately need their AFL contingent to bolster the stocks.
Has Mark Passador played his last game at league level for the club with Salter's iminent return?

Does anyone have the free kick statistics - especially quarter-by-quarter totals?

Whether we won or lost today, it will be completely irrelevant in 2 weeks time. I think it was a good test for us against a top 3 side to see how far off we are and where we need to improve. Despite the result there is plenty of up-side to the game:
- Treeby, Powell, Fiacchi and Fairclough playing their first league games since mid-season (or earlier), so they should be better for the run
- Matching Glenelg in general play and on the scoreboard after quarter time (but it is still a concern that we have rarely played the full 4 quarters this year)
- The AFL inclusions I would think should boost our team moreso than others in the finals

From today's game it shows there is a gap between the top 3 and the Eagles, but on our day I think we challenge them. But that will be irrelevant if we don't perform in a fortnight.

Bays were sensational in the first quarter, Ive been waiting for weeks to see that style of footy, unfortuantely we didnt maintain it for the whole match but that glimpse was enough for me to be confident in the coming weeks...

Thought today's game was a really good hit out for the finals with the way the Eagles kept attacking the footy. To beat them we had to match that and surpass it which we did quite well in the 1st and 3rd quarters. The 2nd and 4th quarters were played in two halves whith each side sharing the ascendancy. Very happy to get the 2 pts as I was concerned pre-game as the Eagles are starting to get their preferred team on the park. I can see the Eagles possibly making the prelim as with a week off and some inclusions they will be primed to face North and most likely the loser of Centrals/Sturt.

However I will like to play them again with Grima, Holmes, Adlington and possibly Sellar and Logan in if we face them in the finals.

Thought the umpiring generally favoured the side first to the footy, however agree with others Debouy lacks a feel for the game at this point of his umpiring career.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Also great to see club legends like Carey, Cornes, Hodgeman, Kuhlmann, Hunt, Rosenwarne, and Chigwidden to name but a few in the cricketers club at the Glenelg Past Players and Officials Day, well I wasn't worthy of being in their company.

Yes the Eagles did for about 10 minutes in the second quarter .It turned into the Cica show .He kicked a point some clown glenelg player pushed him down free kick and a 25 metre certain goal.Ball bounced in the centre cica gets pollaxed something like a clothes line in wrestling.Cica appeared to do a 360 in the air .Goal reseluted Eagles got to within 3ish goals .
But that was it .

Glenelg should have ended the game in the first term 9 or 10 shots on goal .That alone almost left the Eagles alive.

I really dont want to post this but no Broadbent no eagles midfield. No Salter no Eagles forward line .That is my personal thoughts.
Plus Ron reverted back to 08's plan B that didnt work and 09's plan B didnt work either!!
The only things working in our favour AFL players to come back in the finals and one of the top 3 teams looks suspect on a large oval!!

Having a look at the stats, that is a very low tally of possessions by both sides. I like that, because it means both teams were playing more direct. The top 5 possession winners according to the Advertiser were:
23 - Byron Murphy
22 - Lucas Block
22 - Justin Cicolella
20 - Richard Douglas
20 - Adam Fisher

This also means that players weren't getting cheap stats either by kicking it to each other or lining up for handballs.

The man boy that tried to umpire was way out of his depth . I loved how the umpires slowly edged back the free kick count during the latter part of the game so it was only 10 the difference . Jay OKE !

Reckon it would have been close to about 10 the difference at 1/4 time, certainaly helped our cause when the guys got to the ball first a bit more often after 1/4 time.
