From what I have been told at Information nights the process of selection will be upheld to the letter.

1. All applications go through MacArthur Sports
2. Best 5 will be submitted to Special committee
3. Best 3 from that interview process will be given a chance to present a plan to the committee
4. Best 2 will asked re-present to the board
5. Final decison will be made by the select committee at the end of October.
6. New coach will be appointed by 1st November, in a full time coaching appointment.

Any talk of anyone being a lay down for the job is rediculous, the best man available, will win this gig

Cheers

All very well to have due process but by 1st November the best coach numbers 1 & 2 in the market may well have been taken by Eagles and Port hence the move by them to signal before season's end that their coaching positions are vacant. This a an open market place ("1st in best dressed") and due process may be at the expense of best available. This is what has happened to Richmond - they have procrastinated and North Melbourne gazumped them.

For example, what if Ron Fuller contacted Norwood and said he wanted to coach them but he needed an answer now because Port had approached him and offered him their job but he was more interested in the Norwood job - would they tell him that he had to wait until 1st November? I think not.

I'm not concerned, Norwood and Eagles / Port will have different applicants at least in the final group due to employment conditions and criteria. It can always be sped up if need be but I don't think it wil come to that.

I think we can take Jars off the list, as he will see out his contract at Perth, Bassett & Cotton must be the front runners. Not sure about Rohan Smith, he sounds like he only wants to get a foot in the door at AFL ranks. We should learn from the Dale Lewis experiment.

I would have thought by now that both Robbie and South would have worked out that he can't coach kids. I would think that he would be released to coach at a higher level.

I think that Norwood may be tempted to appoint Bassett. This could be disastrous. He has a very good footy brain but his organisational skills are such that I've been told that he couldn't organise a fart in a baked bean factory.

Evidenced by? (I have worked in footy a bit with Bass and he is about as organised as I have come accross).

I would rule Jarman out as when at North he was getting $130 000 and $90 000 is not enough for him.
$90 000 is all they can afford after the $50 000 salary cap fine.

I must admit I would have no idea what the remuneration of SANFL coaches are these days but I would be absolutely astounded if Jars was on $130K.

Yeah, I reckon someone might be stretching the "elastic'! Maybe if you add his coaching fee and job he had at Fielders but sh^t that's good coin. Don't think the Perth job would get him that much so it doesn't add up.

I let your first comment go, but not this one ... I'd suggest $90k is about what would be offered, but fine or no fine, if we thought the position merited more we could provide more ... Stick to time keeping mate.

No principles here ... it's just a selection process.

What would be more interesting to those that care would be the selection criteria. ;)

Well I can tell you he wasn't on that much but may have hinted at the end of 2007 (after "luckily" getting us to a GF) that he wanted somewhere "near" that but was knocked back!
