I know you will be after a review of the book once it is released Wedgie, but here is a bit of a preview, promoting it from the Galwer Bunyip newspaper.

CENTRAL District Football Club is celebrating its 50 year history with a new book, 'Poms to Premiers', set to be launched on August 30.

The club was formed out of the old Galwer and District Football League in 1959, and the book is written by Bunyip sports journalist Robert Laidlaw and former star player Robin Mulholland - who also started his football career at South Galwer.

The book is a hard back - pictured here exclusively - with 272 pages, and will include more than 200 photographs, from the early days of Gawler through to the 2008 premiership team.

Many of the Bulldog's favourite players will have a 'voice' in the book, while other aspects of the club have been featured, including the controversies, the special matches as well as supporter generated material.

Central Districts is holding a family day at Elizabeth Oval from 11am on Sunday, August 30, where the book will be launched. Copies can be pre-ordered by phoning the club on 8255 2555

I have been lucky enough to have a peek at the parts of the book and I must say, I was blown away with some of the content, particularly a lot of the old material. It will be brilliant, again I can't wait for the release, a real 'must have' for all Doggies supporters and general footy fans.

Paid for my pre-ordered copy today. Picked up the Bunyip and a couple of more fantastic articles promoting the book. Stories featuring the co authors. The more I hear about what is in this book the more excited I get. This book is going to be fantastic and the lady on CDFC reception who took my payment said the club has had a big response with people ordering the book.

So if you want one you need to turn up to family day and make your purchase. I understand nearly half the production run has been pre-ordered.

Can't wait, roll on August 30.

Got my copy of the book today (and the free copy of BM). Just glanced over it, but it has most certainly lived up to it's hype. From the amazing picutures of Hamra Homes Oval from the very very early days (no grandstand, no mounds, somewhat resembling Hickenbotham Oval today) right through to last years premiership it is one of the best publications I've seen and will read.

As usual, BM (which gets a couple of pages in Poms to Premiers) has you in stitches from cover to cover - highlights are the letter from Ron of Woodville about the grandstand and spot where Heath Lawry has kicked the ball.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

It's brilliant. Brings back many memories. Love the copy of the letter from the primary school boy to Tony Casserly, thanking him for the school visit. Young boy proudly tells of how his own junior footy is going. Signed Johhny Platten. Also, Danny Hulms' letter to members before the start of the 2000 season, stating what is needed to turn things around and mentioning the new recruits including two brothers Chris and James.
Well done.

Went to the public book launch at the Playford Library this morning where Matty Slade, Johnny Platten and the 2 wonderful co-authors Robin Mulholland and Robert Laidlaw spoke. The book is just so unbeleivable, I can't put it down, it is addictive to read I tell ya !!

Great to hear Centrals CEO Kris Grant mention that the club is organising another run of 500 copies so to avoid missing out, make sure you ring Kirsty at reception and pre-order a copy now !!

Had a quick read of it, and they don't shy away from the bad in our history. Great to see so many past players and coaches writing their bit in there. Just shows how few left the club on bad terms. Don't think anyone will be disappointed. I like the way they go right back to the beginning, but don't worry about great detail. Just enough to know how things happened but not bore anyone with stuff that isn't terribly interesting (IMHO). Sad to hear how hard the other clubs made things for us in the early days. I'd like to think if a club was put in the same position these days we would do the right thing, not stuff them around just to keep them weak.

The BM is a ripper. What a shame we don't have anything like that regularly anymore.

Even though I'm a North supporter I ordered a copy and should get it in the post tomorrow, can't wait ,just love club history books.Hats off to Robin Mulholland, Robert Laidlaw and the CDFC, if one is going to do a history book do it properly and it looks like this book is a big winner.
Looking forward to the early history and up to the 70's in particular, might have to flick past the 2007 GF part :(
Well done Doggies!

Big Phil wrote:In line with the 50 year celebration of the Central District Football Club, a new book called Poms to Premiers is being released later in the month.

Written by club historian Robert Laidlaw and former player Robin Mulholland, the book is a must for all Doggies fans and collectors of books relating to the SANFL.

Here is a sneek peak at the back and front cover of the book that will sell for $49.95 with its release coinciding with the family day at the club on Sunday 30th of August.

Check out the link below if you want to pre-order a copy as I think only 1000 were printed so they will sell pretty quickly I would assume.

I was lucky enough to look through a copy which had been autographed by the Gowans Twins and Sonny Morey .And owned by a Former Norwood champ (richmond player of the 60's his last game was Bartlets first )forgotten his surname but his first name is Peter.
A great looking book even if they wizzed past 06 ;)

Although I haven't finished reading the book 'cover to cover', it truly is an awesome publication and I would suggest if you haven't ordered one yet, get in touch with Kirsty at the club (82552555) to pre-book a copy now, as I think there aren't too many left of the 500 extra copies are being printed.

Wedgie, I know it is not a review as such, but seriosuly, get a copy mate, you wont regret it, even as a non Central supporter...

Kris Grant was on the SANFL show, Outside 50 on 5RPH this morning and mentioned the additional copies of the book reprinted have arrived at the club and are ready to be picked up.

I have heard there are still about 200 copies left so if you haven't got one as yet, ring the club NOW and speak to Kirsty on 8255 2555

Finally got my hands on this book.
It's a ripper!
Well done to all.

Love the BM Mag as well.

Anyone notice the Messenger article this week that gave the mag the incorrect title? Given the nature of the mag, the boys would've enjoyed that gaffe.
