even if he qualifies for finals, do you think the crows would release him to play ?......they should but i doubt it

well he is out of contract, so if the crows are out and the eagles are still playing, i would say yes they will realease him, they will want to see how he is going around list managment time.

So a big game at Woodville Oval.
The injury list doesnt look good - hopefully most will come up but it could be backs against the wall - So our boys will need all the eagles fans in fine voice on Sunday! (call to Micky - Fortress Woodville!!!)

Our crowds are up a little from 2008 so lets hope the trend continues and we get our best crowd for the year so far on Sunday.

I'll be at fortress Woodville CD ( the BBQ would go broke if I didnt  )

My Mail from alberton is not good though .Broadbent to play for the Power :(

It is fortunate at the moment we have some AFL players available to cover our injuries to a certain extent.

The hard thing will be to get the balance right. We have to replace Jacky, Fairclough and Jarrad from the weekend's game. Meanwhile Passador, Salter and Burton are probably the A Grade players that you'd like to fit in.

Wright has been in the best players in the reserves for the past month and is probably pushing hardest for league selection. I haven't been a big fan of his, but now is perhaps the time to give him an opportunity. Symmons is a proven quality player pushing for league selection and it would be great to see Robbie Fiacchi back in the league side.

My team against the bays:

F: Burton Passador Banner
HF: Westbrook Grocke Cheep
C: Corbett McKenzie Allmond
HB: Petrenko McGregor Broadbent*
B: Stewart Hier Salter
R: Miles Shirley Cicolella
I: Cullen/Hill Rimington Wright

*If Broadbent gets called up to the Power I'd replace him with R Fiacchi

Ins: Burton, Passador, Salter, Wright
Outs: Cullen/Hill, Jarrad (inj), Fairclough (inj), Jacky (inj)

McGregor can take Sellar, Hier on Grima, Stewart on Hinge and Salter on Kirkby. Either way, I'd give Salter a job on one of Glenelg's key forwards.

Whoever is the better ruckman or whoever is in better form at the moment out of Cullen or Hill I'd give the 2nd Ruck spot to. A huge job for Miles on Cranston. Will need to do a lot around the ground.

It is still a fairly solid team on paper without Treeby, Dabrowski, Powell, Symmons, Pete Fiacchi, Jarrad, Jacky etc.

Surely the Eagles arent especting Burton to play more than a half. Would you take a guy coming back from a 1 year injury, with the knowledge that he wont play anywhere near the whole game. Putting my crows hat on i would prefer to see him eased back, rushing his progress along could lead to another injury and probably the end for one of the Afls most exciting players. Play him in the twos.

Totally agree ... I read this morning that Fuller isn't concerned if he plays, but I can only suspect that it isn't in the best interests of Burton, the Eagles or the Crows if he does.

I'm personally not fussed if he plays or not as its 21 on 21 regardless.

If my memory serves me correctly the last time Burton came back through the 2's he injured himself in the first game. I don't think he has played for the Eagles since.

I hope to see him in the league team if the doctors and himself see fit. Even if he only plays 75% match time, he will still be more valuable than some of our fringe players. I doubt fitness will be an issue for him, especially if he plays forward.

He was so exciting to watch in the late 90's in the SANFL and it will be great to have him back in Eagles colours until he gets back to the Crows.

Burton to miss the Eagles game

From facebook

Brett has tonight decided to delay his return for one more week .... is feeling tired after a few weeks of full training and doesn't want to push it too hard at this stage

I wouldn't rush Burton back in - it was a serious knee injury, but both Passador and Salter in the League side will be very handy seeing as we are coming up against a full back who has held Chambers goalless twice in a row.

Interesting to read in today's Advertiser that Brett Burton is right and ready to play for the Eagles on the weekend, despite other reports saying he is "tired" from an intense training week and wants to have 1 more week off !!??

So will the Birdman play this weekend or not, that is the question !!??

Yeah, but we all know that sides don't have to finalise their playing 21 until half and hour before the first bounce. The Eagles could name him but he may still not line up, maybe a bit of ducks and drakes !!

Ha, you are as bad as the Woodville oval ground announcer, he is cringeworthy with comments like 'the media wrote us off' , 'no one tips us', 'they are all picking on us'. in fact the Eagles will probably win again this week, i cant wait to hear the ground announcer dribble crap again.
