Adelaide Hawk and whufc you are right, the AFL will kill off our league, their influence over the SANFL to form the u/18 was the first step, the second is the 2 new licenses. As posted before let's enjoy it while we can as i fear for the future of our beloved comp.

Surely the first step in killing off our comp was introducing one then two South Australian sides into their comp?
Not that I subscribe to the sensationalistic view that theyre trying to kill the SANFL off but surely the Crows and Power have had a bigger impact on the SANFL rather than the introduction of an Under 18s competion?

I agree with your first line Wedgie. But my point was why has the (widely cited) decrease in standard occurred between this year and last? I accept the view of several posters in that we won't see the flow on effect of the change in the underage structure through to league for a at least a couple of years. So when I look at my club (I can't speak for other clubs), and I see that just about every player who has played for Sturt league this year has played league football before, why do people see a drop in standard? For example, is it a change in coaching philosophy?

I also note that U18 matches that finish with teams separated by 150pts+ with the losers only scoring one goal is a bit farcial

Apparently the Under 18s comp was supposed to reduce those sorts of matches. I'll wait to the end of the season to determine if so.

In any competition, in any age group this type of thing can happen, I agree with spelly, it's not supposed to happen but it does, and it will from time to time

The standard of the comp has gradually got worse over the years and moreso recently, I'm not sure why but I can tell you it has nothing to do with an Under 18 competition being introduced.
It'd be like blaming global warming, interest rates drops or an alcopops tax rise for the decline in standard.
Who knows, in a few years time when the flow on effect will be felt we might be praising the Under 18s comp for a rise in standard.

Also can someone please provide me with a link to the official announcement that the new structure was supposed to eliminate 150+ blow outs? I would have thought it would have been obvious there would be more especially when its in its infancy.

There's no link, it was used on here as an argument for the competition to happen.
