Hate to burst peoples bubbles here but Sports Tonight maybe national but that part with the SANFL scores is only for SA viewers (region specific). Depending on what part of Australia you're in, that segment might cover local footy (WAFL, VFL, QAFL etc) or local Rugby scores.

I think the result could have been reversed if North had taken their chances in the 2nd quarter. Watching the game from behind the northern goal, the Dogs looked like they had no idea how to get out of their back 50 and in a few minutes we had Schell miss a target with a 20 metre kick and turn the ball over, Dunne kick out from the goal square straight to Schwarze (i think) and O'Hara stepping out the square with his kick in. All of these could (should) have resulted in North goals. There were also a couple of other gettable set shots that North missed in the period too.

I feel the dogs were very lucky to escape with a win this week. At least our intensity when we didn't have possession was much improved and the strong tackling seemed to be back. I dont want to get too negative though, because we will improve leading into the finals and have the return of some key players in the coming weeks.

It was just a weird game to watch. As a Centrals supporter i feel that we were lucky but if i was a North supporter i would have been very disappointed letting this opportunity slip.

Does anyone know what happened to Havelberg, we didn't see him come on in the last quarter at all?

I stood with him for a lot of today, very funny man, had me in stitches for most of it. I don't recall him bragging last week about North and he's currently absent because he was banned for a month from this site.
Please don't call other posters names though bluegirl, we discourage that sort of behaviour.

On to the game, weirdly enough despite being sober I had a bloody pleasant day.
Drive out there picking Drebin up on the way was pleasant going via the Port Expressway, had a very nice BBQ lunch at Elizabeth.
Caught up briefly with Big Phil and had a couple of lights with mates.
Great win for the ressies who continue their stunning turnaround from being bottom and winless to winning by large margins each week. 47 points this week.
Jordan Dodman put his hand up big time for a game next week in the league kicking 6 or 7 goals and at one stage outmarking 5 Central players, he is an absolute man mountain!
In the league Central jumped out the blocks similar to our game against West kicking 4 relatively quick ones, North got a bit of momentum back kicking 2 late ones.
Talking to a few at Quarter time I was concerned as the breeze felt like 3 goals advantage and I could see us being 8 goals down at the half but was pleasantly suprised by a very intense hard at it North who completely outplayed Central but bad kicking is bad football and they kicked something like 9 points for the quarter, could have easily have been 7 goals.
Talking to a few Centrals fans they thought it was similar to their 2nd qtr against Sturt and should have been well behind at half time.
North kept up the momentum and hard tackling for the start of the 3rd qtr and briefly hit the lead but then let the intensity drop probably for most of the rest of the match and we all know you can't afford to do that.
Observations:
O'Sullivan, absolutely senational, easily BOG in my book.
A moment I found funny but a couple of moron North supporters got infuriated by was when Gill went down injured and Central kicked a goal and one of the Gowans lads ran about 30 metres to a lone Gill on the ground and gave him a huge shove in the back and a mouthful, made me laugh but Gill didn't react.
Whoever stood Damon White today was sensational.
North's sideways backwards games is very frustrating especially at one stage when we sent it about 30 metres backward only to have a Central player pounce on it, it was like schoolyard stuff when a kid starts going the wrong way but this was meant. Central did it a few times too, very noticable both sides play a similar brand of game but Central just do it better which is to be expected.
Note to North fans who yell at players to "man up". That's not the game plan morons, they're supposed to be in a zone!
We have some shockers who have no idea these days, very similar to Crows supporters but a minority and not a majority, I thought we used to have a fairly intelligent fan base but I've come up with a theory that because we have such an old supporter base some have just gone senile.
One idiot who always stands near up even claimed we lost the game because of the cheating umpires.

Anyway, I took some good shots today, will try and get them up in the next day, its amazing how much better my pics are when I don't drink!

Well done Dogs too good, as usual, we'll be your bitches for a while yet. ;)

Sorry about the long winded post but just wanted to add that its good to read that the bloke who went down in front of the grandstand waved to the crowd on the way off, it was quite distressing from the other side of the ground to see an ambulance pull onto the oval with its lights flashing and the four sheets they put around the guy when he went down, it looked similar to when they put horses down at the track!
First time Ive seen a 3/4 time break be as long as the 1/2 time break with the players having another warm up because of the delay.
I hope he recovers quickly and fully!

I'm not sure about this but i presume the Sports Tonight episodes we get are slightly different to what goes out to the rest of the country. I've seen the SANFL scores given in the first 5 minutes of the show before (just after the AFL reports), i doubt this would go to the rest of the country.

I'm asking this from an AFL perspective - i'm curious how Giles went today, did he win his fair share of hit outs, presumably he was CD's starting ruckman today.

Think you will find Andrew Hayes played on White, Wedgie. Wore him like a glove and would have thought he was high up in the Dog's best. In fact the undermanned defence did very well against Norths quality forwards. Having said that, it would have been a lot more difficult with Gill floating around as well.

Again impressed with Dutschke's efforts, and O'Hara showed again he has an old head on young shoulders.

Less impressed as others with Henderson's debut. Clearly has talent but is still raw - made a few clangers which could probably be put down to nerves, will watch his progress with interest.

Great turn out of Rooster supporters who would have been disappointed not to get the points, although to me they look like they are on the right track. Maybe not this year for them though- it is a big ask to expect a completely new game plan to stand up in pressure games.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Thanks Hazy, very impressive performance by Andrew.

Pics of the game now online, lot of North pics as Central didn't kick a goal for the entire time I took photos (from half way through the 1st quarter to half time):

I think you will find during football seasons the first segment on Sports Tonight is tailored to a specific state, the second segments onwards are all the same. During the summer season without the state by state division on preferred codes it runs one national bulletin from beginning to end.

Unbelievable post!

Which side do you think is the most vulnerable out of the current final five? Would that side not be at risk of losing their place if one of the lower tiered sides picks up their form at the halfway mark of the season? Remember Norwood in 1984?

Um ...yes any side close to the 5th position is at risk of losing their spot if a side picks up their form . Unbelieveble post indeed.

Dogs Goal Kickers : Osullivan 4 Havelberg 2 L.Westhoff Dutschke J.Gowans Giles Mckenzie Henderson

Tough game in close. Both sides tackling was terrific. But some of the turnovers were comical.

Well done to all involved with the treament of the gentleman who suffered the heart attack at 3/4 time. The St Johns Ambulance people and both CDFC and NAFC officials involved should be commended in their swift actions.

As for the footy Chad Osullivan BOG Ryan Williams not to far behind.

Hayes and Schell had their best games for the year. Heath Lawry looked great in defence his best game for a long time. Henderson is very impressive for a guy who has probably played just over a dozen games of aussie rules football. Kyle Jenner was excellent for the dogs aswell.

I hear James Moss is out for the rest of the year with his hip injury can anyone confirm ???

So when a bloke goes down , its OK to have a crack at him when he is not looking . Gee if you dont think thats a coward , what is ? You never have a go at someone in those positions . That is what most young men are taught from an early age. How weak. Least have a crack at a guy when he is ready.

He didn't belt him, he just came over and gave him a gentle shove and a mouthful, my god.

If he'd brought a gun out and shot Gill after he'd broken both legs it might have been different.

Well maybe somewhere in between ;) , certainly not anything that would injure or cause further injury to Gill, it didn't bother Gill in the slightest but was hillarious although a few North fans didn't see the humour in it. ;)
