Even if you drop a weight class, you're still punching against someone in the same class as yourself. So why is a premiership less "credible"?

It's probably a little less prestigious thanks to the overwhelming focus on the AFL, but each premiership means as much to a true supporter as it did thirty years ago.

This argument is purely based on ones own perception. For mine, the flags won in the 70's and 80's were against much tougher opposition. I totally agree with your "weight division" comment, totally agree. There is no right or wrong answer to this and both sides have strong cases to argue,I just side with post 1990 not being the same, thats all.

I guess it depends how you look at it and I definitely concede that there is less focus on it. People don't talk about the local league at work as much as they used and there'd be far less bragging rights on the first day back after a grand final.

The thing is with the "credibility" comment, the players actually work a lot harder on the track these days than they did in the 60's and 70's for far less prestige. If you're referring to level of natural ability and talent compared to pre VFL-taking-our-players days, then it's without doubt you're correct.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

My opinion is that those that support the Magpies and not the POwer, will not suddenly jump onto the Power. They will be lost supporters.

However, the whole situation should have been handled a lot better at the time. It is a mess. It is confusing. It is hard to understand. If the PAFC are in the AFL, then the SANFL should not have made the PAMFC to have the shared history. It should have been seen as a new club. All the shared history has done is create far too much confusion and has caused the 'split' and some infighting amongst supporters that essentially should be joined as one.

Me, I will be incredibly ******* dirty if the Magpies were forced to fold 'for the good of the SANFL'.

In the years immediately preceding the formation of Port Power, the Port Magpies attracted typical (in a median sense) crowds of around 7000 (from memory) to Alberton. This includes opposition supporters.

Conversely, 20000 is considered low for a Port Power crowd; crowds have been closer to 30000 in the better years.

Simple figures do not lie: Most of the Power supporters did not follow Port Magpies. Or if they did, their support was nominal at best. The converse may well be true (i.e. Magpie supporters generally follow the Power), but the assertion that many support both sides is simply false.

As further evidence of the above, I've heard that crowds watching Port Magpies play curtain raisers to Power matches (back in the early days of the Power) were not more than a few thousand at first bounce. I submit that if Power fans followed both teams equally then the crowd would be much higher from the outset.

Id say most Power supporters 'follow' the Magpies, much like most Crows supporters 'follow' their SANFL club. They may go to one or two games a year, usually against Norwood or Glenelg or they show up in finals and thats it.

I wont want to see 30k down at Alberton celebrating the next Magpies premiership. At least then, ill be able to walk through the crowd, shake the hands of the people ive stood next to in front of the Williams stand for the last 10 years and know that we've been there all along.

Well if they disolve the magpies the SANFL will go broke

1/9th of $150million in SANFL assets = $16.67 million

Big cheque to write , like to hear the whingeing from the Crows and Power over that one in regards to SANFL take from Footy Park matches to cover the settlement.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

I never mentioned Centrals utter domination of the comp for the last 10 years. I just mentioned you have done bugger ye all in the last 10 years.

I would get back to you after the CDFC has dominated for 50 years but i doubt Port Adelaide would be alive by then. Best to get in now is my theory. ;)

I don't think the 9 SANFL clubs technically own 1/9 of the of the SANFL's assets (AAMI, 2 AFL licenses, control of the SANFL comp) giving them the sort of legal entitilement you are talking about. There's no "share of SANFL Inc assets" shown on any SANFL Club's balance sheet.

The SANFL Inc own these assets. The SANFL clubs play in the comp controlled by the SANFL Inc.

The SANFL is an incorporated assocation, not a company with issued shares that each club has a % ownership. I don't know how membership in the SANFL Inc actually works TBH. There's still paying members of the SANFL out in the public who have their own stake. Incorporated associations are meant to last indefinitely even as it's members change over time meaning there's never a fixed stake that any one member holds.

But the PAM could claim for lost future earnings from being in the SANFL comp if they were kicked out. Not sure it would be $16.7m tho. However, moot point - will never happen.

Anyone know better than me, I am going off the cuff here!

The saddest part about Port Adelaide fans (Magpies and Power) throwing stones at each other, is that the true protagonists of this situation, ie the AFL, who let the Crows in wearing the same colours as Fitzroy, bent over when Collingwood put their foot down about Black and White. Put the Power in the Prison Bars and there's no argument about their history.

This is one thing i'll agree with you on BR is that Port should have been allowed to wear their prison bar guernsey and the only issue should have been making the Collingwood crims wear a clash strip against you here and you wear a clash strip against them in Melb.
Malthouse complained about the umpiring on the weekend, you watch them get a great run from the umps this week.
Toughen up AFL

I was proud to see those things but not the cornes boys because All Australian, Bays fans have a ruight to be proud of that. I have my reasons for No longer following the power most of which was getting crap when i wore any magpies gear to power matches from other port supporters. When the Power first wore the prison bar gurnsey i was there although i had already given up on the Power and so were otehrs like me who only follow the Magpies.
