Was at this game this morning, The Eagles were just too good on the day...

FINAL SCORES:
Eagles: 3.6 5.9 11.13 15.18 = 108
Centrals: 0.1 4.2 6.3 9.6 = 60

No major goal kickers for the Eagles, they had a few blokes with 2's and 1 with 3 I think. Gerard McGrath kicked 5 for Centrals and was probably their best player along with James Moss, Sean Brading and Ashley Duncan. Former Westies player, Nick Malinovski was clearly the best on ground and Guffrieda was excellent down back, Zac Edwards was impressive and Jonno Lee was probably the best big man in the ground. Louis Hadden played reserves for the Dogs so he obviously drops out of their extended bench tomorrow.

Was most definately a 4 or 5 goal breeze blowing to the school end and despite their innacuarcy, the Eagles were able to use the ball better and more effectively going forward. Luke Cowan was very dissapointing for the Dogs and ended up playing lose in defence for most of the 2nd half just to get into the game. There was a pretty big "brawl" in front of the cricket club at the Bay, right on the boundary line. Young Matthew Goldsworthy was slung tackled to the ground after he stepped over the line for a boundary throw in. Sean Brading was the Centrals player and it lead to a bit of a mele with a dozen or so players. Brading might not have to face the tribunal, the free kick and 25m penalty paid was suffice but Kieran McShane might find himself in trouble if his high contact on an Eagles player (not sure who) was seen.

Season over for the Doggies, very dissapointing way to end an up and down season and the Eagles fight on for another week in season 2008.

Cheers,

Big Phil...

eagles dominated

it could have been over by 1/2 time if they had kicked straight

Guifredda was outstanding

good debut by young von bertouch I thought

looks a likely type

Lee Staple provided an excellent target at CHF and he played in front all day

good all round team performance

very odd why Ben Shwartze wasn't allowed to play when Fitzgerald was

wc eagles scout there today watching

Pretty well summed up by Big Phil, the birthday boy CD and CCL.

Good performance by the Eagles today in challenging conditions,
Nick Malinovski backed up last weeks good performance with another good one, seems to have settled in to the Eagles style now and could be a valuable asset for next year.
Patrick Guiffreda was great in the backline, his long kicking with the breeze to move the ball quickly into attack on the smaller ground was telling on numerous occasions.
Craig Fitzgerald and Travis Lane ended up with about 3 Goals and 9 or 10 points between them!
Damien Williamson may not have featured highly amonst the posession getters but put his body on the line twice to win the ball and a free kick in the space of a few of minutes when the game was still up for grabs in the second qtr.
The ruck battle was interesting, Centrals seemed to have the better of it in the first half but as the game wore on the Eagles boys seemed to get the edge.
Good performances from Jake VonBertouch and Jared Polec in their first reseves games also.
Trust the process.

My understanding of the permit committees ruling is that Schwarze is a league player who did not play 3 out of the last 5 reserves games and thus he was declared ineligible to play. (happy to be corrected)

Our point of view was he was dropped to the ressies 6 weeks ago played one game and was injured then came back and played the last 2 ressies games - ie 3 games at ressies level in last 6 weeks and was injured for the rest - so was really ressies player for 6 weeks. The permit commissioner dis-agreed with us and a permit was refused.

Thus to not effect the U19s who finished minor premiers we played 2 lads from u17 for their first game at reserves level so we could field 21 fit and eligible players! Both lads did very well indeed.

Great to see the entire league team and those ruled ineligible and/or injured at the game today to support the boys.

Go Eags - 2 teams alive in the finals!

Thanks for the b/day wishes Columbo

CD, how was the Centre square like yesterday? When the 17s and 19s were there a couple weeks ago, it was a bit dodgy.

But don't worry to save you blokes getting on your high horse again it was watered, rolled and we weren't allowed on it (the square) on friday night when we trained...

I forgot to bring it up but there was a letter in the paper during the week absolutely canning the condition of Glenelg Oval saying it was a disgrace and embarassment to SANFL, must admit I was surprised by that but there's obviously a few of that opinion, last time I was there it was perfectly fine though.

Glenelg Oval always looks crap by the end of the season. It has more variety of grasses in it than the Botanical gardens.

the centre square is fine though.

Ahh ok, so if he whinged about the entire oval except for the Centre Square he would have been on the money then?

1st of I wasn't asking you and when the juniors played there, we were concerned about the welfare of players of BOTH CLUBS, not just our players.

Well to save CD to the trouble AND becuase I knew what had been done I gave the answer.

All very well to have concerns about both teams but those concerns need to have some grounds to be considered worthy....

I can tell you the ground was hard, players have ripped up legs due to the ground, looks like they fell off motorbikes and grazed themselves on the road, the centre although dusty was soft. Just the rest of the oval was rock hard, needed the rain we just had. :D
