J Clayton the epitome of the term "downhill skier".

Ive seen plenty of him but every time I do he's fine when the side is up and running... nowhere to be seen when the going gets tough. Love to see his last half stats in comparison to his first half in games where his side is run over. In this case I am fully aware Murphy clamped down on him after the 1/2... and did a damn good job.

I'd probably say its the other way around. Generally he's the cause of Port being competitive/leading, and when he slips, the side struggles as well.

Clayton was brilliant in the first half. He, James Allan and Brett Backwell are three players that always seem to be able to get in and out of heavy traffic and dispose of the footy so cleanly...

Murphy's second half was good to restrict Clayton...Rooey got him a good tackle late in the first half which Clayton didn't appreciate...had me wondering whether that was the first time we had touched him all day...and it had actually surprised him too, because he wanted to go on with it...

Backwell certainly got the Bays going in that BIG third term...

Perhaps 5RPH realise Mouse was clearly BOG in the State Game and want to reward him a week later...

On Clayton: I would give Clayton the 3 Magarey Votes for that game. He has slipped some way since his Magarey winning year but his importance to the Port side cannot be understated. Once or twice today he managed to fluff disposal (eg kick got smothered) yet immediately put in the second effort to tackle the bloke who got the ball, and in one case a third effort.

Very weird game. To my mind Glenelg was completely outclassed for the entire first half, not just the first term. The bays were not running, not chasing, often beaten to the ball. Port played with commendable intensity. Their pressure on the ball carriers was first rate; they niggled and harassed at every opportunity. Much of Glenelg's bad accuracy in the second term could be attributed to Port's defensive pressure.

Even the third term started too slowly for my liking - it took about 10 minutes for the Tigers to get into swing - but that latter period of the third term was champagne footy. The smooth running game was back and Glenelg danced circles around Port. Both teams are to be commended for the final term; Port kept on going right until the final siren and made Glenelg earn the points. Port played well above its station on the ladder, but ultimately Glenelg is the better team and it showed. To play a crap first half and still win against a dedicated opponent augurs well for the club this year.

have port got any young forwards coming through the ranks ? i say this not to be smart but with hargreaves 32 & waterhouse 33 they wont be around for more than a year or two & then they'll need that 'kid' to come through to take over from them
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

A good win by the boys in a game that I had been beginning to fear increasingly all week (boo being a Bays supporter with sooooo many losing memories to Port :( :( )

The first quarter and a half looked like we weren't quite there as a unit - too many players one out and not backing each other up. The team work we had showed in the last few games clearly wasn't there in the first 45 mins. Port certainly came out with the kitchen sink to try and unsettel us, you could tell Ginevar had given them the rough up 'em up, hit 'em hard and they'll crumble speech. Clayton was killing us, Micklejohn was giving them at look at it and Surjan got plenty of it. I thought Backwell, Kirkby and Murphy were our better players in the first half along with the back six as we tried to stay in it.

The last half was great especially the way we were able to stand up to the pressure of Port - despite the fact they were tiring. We are going to get more of that in two weeks time when we face Centrals and then the week after against Sturt. It was almost like both teams swapped jumpers at half time as the run and support for each other and the tackling and the pressure Port showed in the 1st half dropped off at the same time we started to improve in that area. Holmes, Backwell, Allan, Fisher Pannozzo and Kane started to find more of the footy and this gave our forwards cleaner delivery.

Loved Bodey's goal in the third when we were three points up, where you noticably saw the Port shoulders drop and our boys lift - whilst I wasn't confident I thought we would be hard to stop from there.

Centrals in two weeks time on their home deck will tell us where we are at - as our coach said tonight despite what the ladder may say Centrals are the benchmark of this competition.

No way are Port the 8th best side ATM. Apart from the Centrals and Sturt games no other side has challenged us like that this year. Good that we could withstand it but Port are better than 8th.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

After some sober thought I might retract that statement... Clayton was held pretty well in the second half. Nevertheless he was clearly BOG in the first half.

Yeah. That was my point. First half was firing. Going got tough and he stopped working. Surjan clearly killed the Tigers with his strong marking and effective use. Was a class above it. Port made an errort dropping that lad but full credit to him cos he never stopped having a dip.

Half asleep in the first half. Was i the only one who thought we were trying to zone and defend basketball style at stages rather than go for the waist? Very flat footed at times.

Bodeys goals defiantely the turning point. Duldig up worked very hard up forward too. Roo bumping around Lokan, Clayton and a coupe of his own teamates just beats the dog on the oval for funniest part of the day for mine.

Can't believe it when I read CR@P like this. JC has an unbelievable 4/4 workrate. Last game we were pathetic against Centrals and yet he never stopped trying. This plus the fact he's carried a groin strain most of the the year, but STILL he put his hand up for the State Game.

I hate losing but I've got no problem with our direction. As long as they keep promoting the well performing juniors the future looks bright down Alberton way.

Absolutely spot on BR... Don't think this fella has any clue what he's talkin about. In the last couple of years he has been Magarey Medal winner and the bookies favourite the other year - both seasons where Port had below average years
