It may be a throw away line that he uses to encourage youngsters and junior coaches to inspire them?

Memo to: Dutchy

From:
Public Relations Dept.

Message:

Mate, you have two options. The first is to retreat quickly and just look totally silly, but live to fight another day.

The second is to try to argue your case further, in which case we can sell you a ladder to get out of the big hole you're digging yourself.

We advise Option 1.

It is probably more profitable to produce a couple AFL players each year than win a SANFL premiership every now and again.

I don't dispute that some idiot might have said it, but suggesting it is a widely held view at the club is ludicrous. We wouldn't bother recruiting or paying big dollars for a coach if that was our first priority.

So were the words "As a club our goal is to produce AFL footballers and not win SANFL premierships" used, or did you deduce from the "..our goal is to produce AFL footballers" as being of greater importance than winning an SANFL premiership?

Dont want to hound, but it seems an odd thing for any official to even use as a throw away line, let alone mean it literally.

They could just seed WWTFC and CDFC as 1 and 2.

Everyone else plays the minor round and finals , to then play WWTFC and CDFC in two semi finals and ultimately the cup final.

Make Prize money 80k 1st, 40 K 2nd every other position 20K.

All expenses payed by foxtel.

Yes, you were saying that.

Proving one person might have said it doesn't alter that.

You'll still be looking silly.

I'll order the ladder ;)

Considering South will probably agree, I'll go for South, Port and West to be our representatives.

I sir am willing to wager that such a thing is not possible.

Port Melbourne and Williamstown are also interested in the outcome. ;)

Loyalty to North forgotten already?

Just being realistic.

I'd love to see North in it, for being in it last year, but I'm sure South will agree and I'm guessing Norwood and Glenelg will say no.

Therefore my educated guess is that South, West and Port will be it.

Time will tell, though.

I'm not averse to the Foxtel cup in principle, but it has to be run in such a way that the integrity of the SANFL competition is not compromised. Perhaps it would work if it was held pre-season during the trial match period. Would be minimal disruption to the SANFL season proper, and the modest prizemoney might make it worthwhile for the better teams, since they'd be playing trial matches anyway.

That defeats the purpose of the cup, ie. to fill in the gap between AFL matches.

Indeed it does defeat that purpose.

However if that is the sole purpose of the competition then I suggest that it's not worth having.

Foxtel aren't putting on the comp out of the goodness of their heart, they're doing it for a commercial reason ie. to stop viewers switching off between AFL games.

Well if they want the best to play then they should duly recognise the awesomeness of these two clubs and not subject them to playing the likes of the Labrador's of this world 8)
