There are definitely some wannabe thug Norwood "supporters" around.

Some drunk young guys came looking for a fight at the end of the GF near where I was sitting. They tried to assault some Centrals fans near me. The Centrals fans were quite restrained and just pinned them down for a while until they decided to run away to a safe distance and yell abuse. Security guys eventually came waddling in and escorted them away...

Jim5112, I am sure there were some bad stories from both sides on GF day, but I still prefer to talk about the good I aluded to way back the day after the grand final, great game, and I was part of some excellent very friendly banter after the game between NFC Spirit and Centrals supporters

Lots of shaking of hands and congrats from both sides then and outside the stadium as I made my way to the car, everyone commenting the game was great.

Still recon if we have a choice, we would like to see all GF's that close, and that sort of never say die attitude, such has been the case of all games between NFC and Centrals over the last 2-3 years, with no fights that I am aware off.

I feel as safe at Elizabeth as you ought to at Norwood during our games, lets keep it that way, anyone stupid enough to go outside of enjoying and supporting their club, should get short shrift by security, I go to watch good hard but fair footy, so do 99.9% of supporters

For what it is worth my wife and I were at that game at Norwood which was a fair while ago now and was the worst incident I have ever seen, yes, it was some young stupid Norwood supporters who got well and truly carried away. We got caught down wind of the commotion and the capsicum spray and my wife was very frightened, distressed and needed to have her eyes washed out a couple of times by local Ambo's

She was not alone, and all it did was reflect badly on SANFL football, too the good of the NFC those lads were banned from any Norwood game permanantly, and they haven't been back again to my knowledge since, good ridence.

So hopefully soon, the games can get back to Friday night's at Norwood.

Cheers

Well said Go Legs we all go to the footy to watch a great spectacle and i agree that any feral supporters from any club once they are identified should be banned for life.

(apologies to Fester ;) )

sounds hard to believe Wedgie but it actually DID happen! One of the WESLO blokes got bashed as well after one game, off-duty he was at the time.

There's been a bit of talk but haven't seen any fights lately which is good.

Anyone remember that match in late 2000??? That was crazy...

I have not made a post on THAT CALLINAN V PHILLIPS collision
The only comment I will make is that later in the game a CD player was met front on and received a free kick for a far less impacted collision

WC V PP 3RD QTR 19/6/2011
Simon Phillips handballs to his team-mate , left himself open, and was shirtfronted by Daniel Kerr
This collision was eerily so so similar to THAT Grand Final bump

HIT PARADE
Callinans hit appeared to be a higher hit than Kerrs
Callinans body appeared to collide as high as Phillips's face
Kerrs body appeared to collide as high as Phillips's chest area

QUESTION
Callinans hit was considered fair and Phillips did not receive a free kick [and got a broken jaw]
Kerrs hit was considered unfair and PP received a free kick down field[ no apparent injury to Phillips]
Now Im confused, I need someone to explain why there are 2 different interpretations ?

Whether a player is injured or not doesn't change the legality of the actions. No point dredging up one incident deemed fair and then trying to claim a lack of consistency when another incident in another competition no doubt under different circumstances some 8 months later.

Graham THAT bump in my opinion was not fair
The bump if executed properly was fair
However Phillips was hit high and got a broken jaw
Phillips should have been given a free kick for TOO HIGH

As to whether he should have been cited and reported
My opinion was then and is now NO

FREE KICK yes
SUSPENSION no

I will have some more legitimate questions on this thread shortly

The only surprise Mal is that you've finally stopped mentioning the Luke McCabe bump against Port Magpies from about 5 years ago. My ex-wife moves on quicker from stuff than you do.

You must have gotten lost on your way to the AFL board then if you're question is more about the AFL bump and not yet another disupute of the SANFL bump.

In the opinions of those without bias and with expertise the bump was fair. The rest of us are poorer judges.

Got the answers I expected form the CALLINAN/PHILLIPS...KERR/PHILLIPS bumps
Both should have been free kicks
Both not reportable offences
The AFL is softer than the SANFL on these issues

SANFL RD 11 NA V WA PROSPECT
MORRIS V 38
I saw another instance of the shirtfront being executed against an unsuspecting opponent
Morris did almost identical to the CALLINAN/PHILLIPS hit
Number 38 for NA was shirtfronted by Morris , number 38 was watching general play when he was hit
Morris ended up at the tribunal and was given a 3 game suspension
This was later commuted to 1 week after an appeal
He was officially suspended for charging

QUESTION
How does Morris get suspended for a similar hit ?
Callinan and Kerr didnt, and rightly so in my opinion

ANSWER ??????????????????
The SANFL perhaps needs to outlaw the bump when being used in a sheperding mode of play ?
Players who are actually in possesion of the ball, albiet falls into a different catergory though
Until there is a rule change, players can line up opposition players off the ball and are entitled to under the current rules of football

SUMMARY
All I ask for is some consistency on shirtfronters

38 for North is Aaron Young.

The Morris bump was just a fraction late. Callinan's bump on Phillips was the perfect shirt front. IF Callinan did the exact samething THIS year, there may have been a different outcome. The SANFL is falling in to line in regard toreports and suspensions. Move on Mal.

Serious Question

Does Phillips have an awareness issue, he seems to leave himself 'open' a fair bit including at training?
